A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The stock air box is still there. I think my float bowls are way off as there seems to be excess fuel going to the cylinders.

I wanna say mine should be set around 24mm but right now its around 36mm I think. I can only imagine how its gotten that far off, dreaded previous owner? Mukini 34mm bs34ss carns BTW.

Thanks and hopefully see ya out there!

36mm!? That's huge! I can't remember the exact spec. now but it's in my rebuild thread somewhere... if I remember I'll try to look in the manual again next time I'm in the garage... 24mm should be in the ball park though.

thats what I thought too. Srry bout the num num spelling in the OP, long day...

Anyway TYVM for the reply. I'll take a look at your rebuild thread and see if I can find it.

Hi,

I found this on some guy's website:

Carb Specs:
Float Height/Jetting/Tuning

Thank you for your indulgence,

Hi,

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

TYVM BassCliff seen that imfo and the chart as well but srry for my maybe mistaking but it doesnt show specs for a 81 gs450e only a ed. Guess I could assume they are all the same but....rather leave assumptions aside.

Also it says to measure float height with the floats just touching the needles using a caliper. Cant I just use a small steel MM ruler?

What does "Thank you for your indulgence" mean? Did I somehow err? Could, if so, you please explain my error?

Anyway TYVM for your time.

Hi,

The carb specs for the 450EX and 450ED are the same, model years '81 and '83. Yes you can use a ruler to measure float height. I usually thank all of the members here for indulging me in my modest attempts to diseminate information. Usually my information is accurate. ;)

There was no erring on you part. I'm just a geek sometimes. :p

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

And I like to thank *you* BassCliff for hosting all that gathered information in one easy to use and reference place :D

I've never seen your information be anything other than accurate either... :)

To measure the float height on mine I found a ruler too awkward and instead I marked the measurements on a small piece of cardboard and used that instead.

Don't forget to measure without the gasket...
