    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

81 GS750EX Headlight& gauge swap. HELP!

This site is crazy cool!:cool: I need help on exactly what is needed to convert from the BIG rectangular headlight to the 750L or better yet the one on this page. http://www.ronh.org/suz750e_82_hr.htm I have a 81 650G gauge package coming and am also bidding on the ones like in the URL. I have headlight brackets. I'm bidding on a 81 750E bucket and a cover with reflectors for the front brake line tee. I'll need a headlight and turn signals from a donor bike. What about wiring? Will my oil pressure sending unit work with a gauge?


My front forks are slightly bent. I was hoping to bid on a set from a 81 750E,but they do not appear to be leading axle like mine. Is this a problem?

If you're referring to this guy's stuff - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzu...023QQitemZ360139260779QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW , all the parts in his auctions are mislabled, they are actually from an '82 GS750E.

I have converted/swapped out almost everything except the gauges on my '81 to an '82. If you are using gauges from a GS650, you will probably have to deal with rewiring the final connector(s) because the plugs to the wiring harness will be different.

If you go with the center axle forks, you'll need to get the front fender off an '82 as well, the mounting points are different. You will also need different brake caliper mounts. The angle is affected, so the center axle caliper moutns have different mounting hole spacing than the leading axle caliper moutns.

Also, the gauge in that gauge package doesn't read oil pressure, it reads oil temperature. the GS650 gauges have an oil pressure light same as your GS750 gauges, sot hat shouldn't be a problem.

If you are just looking to replace your forks with straight ones, it would be a whole lot easier to go with forks from an '80 or '81 750E that are identical to the ones you have.
 
What if I just use the upper tube with my original bottom forks?

The forks are completely different top and bottom. See the little silver things at the bottom front of my forks in the second pic? Those are anti-dive units that Suzuki intorduced in '82. The internals of the '82 upper forks are different than the '81s due to the internal valving needed for the anti-dive addition.

If all you want to do is get some straight forks, I still have the originals off my 750E. You can have them for $15 plus shipping if you want. I'd recommend changing the fork seals and fork oil in them before installation.
 
I'm really not planning on using the 650G gauges. I would like to get the ones with the little fuel & oil temp. gauges like ronh's 750E. Will the oil temperature sending unit work a gauge or just a light? Can I just get a different sending unit if need be? Are the rubber grommets for the back of the light bucket separate or must they come with a harness.

No, it's only for the oil pressure light. It is not a temp sending unit, only pressure.

Can I just get a different sending unit if need be?

I don't know where the '82 took it's temp reading from. That would require some research of the parts diagrams at a place like www.babbittsonline.com

I'm not really sure what you're talking about here. There aren't any rubber pieces on the back of the headlight bucket. Do you mean the rubber seals where the wires enter the gauge cluster?

Yes Griffin I was referring to the seals where the wires enter the bucket.
 
I may be biting off a lot more than I can chew! Really did'nt think there would be so much non interchangeability.
