A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can I get some help on where to get a coil cheap? I'm sure I don't want used (Am I?) and I have seen some one-size-fits-all types on ebay. I don't want to spend money twice on this. The best I can come up with is in the $80 range. TIA RJ

Thanks Chef. You don't think I should worry that they're used? What's the life span of coils.? While I'm asking questions,is there any difference between 1-4 and 2-3?:-D Thanks again,RJ

The coils are the same just the numbers on the wires will match the cylinder plug.

I've always tested coils before selling them but you never know with Fleabay sellers. It's more the luck of the draw. All I know is that you could buy all the coils I just gave you the links to for less than a set of new ones and chances are good one coil will work.

I've never had a coil burn out unless there were issues with the R/R.

Coils tend to work or not work as Bill says. The insulation inside them can break down with age & excess heat though as they are basically a big capacitor. I replaced with Dyna. Accel ones are good too & may fit a little easier as the leads attach in a slightly diff direction.
I have a stock one off a 1000G with the leads removed ready for replacement if that's of interest. You'd need to re-fit the plug to fit to the wiring harness as well as new leads as I used it on the Dyna's. I left enough wire to make the join though.

Mine had wires attached like in the last link, the other two appear to have spade connectors. Prob a couple of years newer as mine's an 80. Imagine they are the same. It was definitely working when I took it off. I swapped them as i tried to change leads but the other one didn't want to play ball & one was stuck fast so it was scrap. I kept this one as a spare.

You can have it for similar money if you want it. Just let me know.

Dan :)
