DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

As some of you know I got two GS for a trade that cost me 25.00. This is the 650 and I have know clue where to start. I took the tank and back cover off to paint. I also took off the side cover where I thought my stator plug would be and found just my chain. Well it looks like crap, and was wondering what I should use to clean up that mess. I will post pics that I have already for my day one pf the project.

This bike is not a keeper for me, I am just trying to get it running so I can sell it. The other bike the 850l is the keeper for me.

I am 99% sure the carbs need to be redone, but I am scared to do it myself. Even after reading all the posts here on how to do it. I also have no clue what is on the inside of the tank.

Any tips on what I should start with would be great. Thanks..

Also does anubody know which bike this seat fits? I got it for this bike but it does not fit.

That's an L seat. You should reconsider which one you keep. 650Es are great bikes.

Yeah, a nice looking L seat ! you got lots of work ahead of you, so if

" I am just trying to get it running so I can sell it"

consider selling it for parts instead and focus on the keeper.

The seat might be off a 450 L. The 650 E is the more desirable bike. Flip it for $150 as is and get your beloved 850 L going.

That 650E needs so much work to make into a decent rider that YOU WILL NEVER FIX IT UP AND MAKE A PROFIT OFF OF IT.

It needs a complete frame-off resto, which will take dozens of hours and over one thousand dollars in parts, if you know what you are doing. From the content of your posts, you do not have any idea.

I pick up lots of bikes from people who do what you did (paint the body parts and/or get a new seat) before even determining if the engine is any good. They then look at the big hot mess they have and try to sell it for what they paid for it, plus the paint job.

Part it out, or sell it as is for $150.

Actually if you part them both out you can make enough money to just buy a nice motorcycle.

Don't waste your money on paint before you even know if the engine will run! There is nothing worse than having shiny painted tins with a boat anchor for an engine. That thing will need more money to fix up than it will potentially be worth even restored. I'd give you $100 for it as it sits.

Actually, if you look at it carefully, it's really all there, electrics, etc-having said that, how much you want for the seat?

Thanks for the info guys. The 650 runs has a stator problem but sat for a few years. Motor is/was fine. The 850 the reasons behind wanting to redo it, is I used to own it. I loved it now it's home.....

recycled64 the seat is for sale. How about 40 bucks or trade? Need side covers for the 650.
