    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

82 GS1100E - How to disable a battery level sensor?

Hi All,

I am a new poster here but a long time GS owner. I am hoping someone has the answer to this one. I have a 1982 GS1100EZ. It includes a wire that is supposed to connect to an electrolyte sensor in the battery. When the electrolyte is low, it lights an idiot light on the display.

I need to know how to disable the light without damaging anything. I bought a Westco sealed battery and it does not include the sensor so now the light is always on. Not a huge deal but a minor irritant.

If you aren't scared of opening you gauges, pull the bulb out. It's a bi-otch, but that won't damage a thing. Otherwise, you can find the wire for the lamp in the schematic and clip it near the gauge harness. You can always solder these wires back real easy. There is probalby a way to jumper the sensor, but I always had trouble finding the other end of the loop at that end of the harness.
 
I don't think I've ever used a battery with a sensor. Rediculous waiste of money. Off with it's head! :shock:

All's the sensor lead does is create a ground when submersed in acid. All I did was ground the lead, and fool the circut into thinking it's in the battery acid. Ground out the sensor lead, and your battery indicator lamp should not light. If not be safe, and do what Jethro suggested. Another neat theory to check each of the 6 battery cells is the use a multimeter: Red lead to positive battery terminal, and stick the black neg. lead down in each cell in the acid, each cell will (should) read 2 volts. 2 volts X 6 cells = 12V battery.
