DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I will be following this one. Very similar to mine. Nice work on the wheels. How long has it taken you so far? What type of cleaning are you going to do to the engine; vapour blast, soda blast etc?

Greetings

There's just something about those '82/'83Es isn't there? They're terrific looking bikes. Love your hi-res images! Looks like she found someone that will look after her. Good luck and keep the progress posted.

April

April

Been working on her since April this year, mostly on weekends. I'm find how quickly you can dump money into GS parts though!

I polished the rim first with just a buffing wheel on a drill and compound (wrap the chuck up with tape first though!), mask it off and then painted with Duplicolor Graphite Wheel Paint & Clearcoat.

Working mostly on the engine build now. Planning on bead blasting cases/block/head and cover and then coat with PJ1 Satin Black. Polishing all other covers. Will try and update as progress is made!

Sweet bike! I always liked those bikes. I will enjoy watching your progress. Have fun!

Still waiting for bored upper case to return from shop yet before blasting and painting also.

Aww Geez!!! You're doing one hell of a nice job on her! Love the engine color - perfect! Keep 'em coming.

Very nice...someone posted a link here, when that bike was offered for sale. The blue didn't look bad on it, but I guess you'll go back to the stock burgundy or champagne.....both nice colours, though I'm partial to one of them.:D

Yea, i want to ride it some once I get her back together. Not going to invest in a good paint job on the tank and plastics yet. The periwinkle will do for now I think. :-)

Great start. One note about bead blasting engines. That stuff gets everywhere, cylinder heads are very suseptable to grit. It has habit of getting into places that are very hard to clean, especially oil galley's.

Head & Cams

Head & Cams

Picked up an 86 GSXR1100 head and cams on fleabay. I am planning to use it with slotted GS cam sprockets and a new HD GS cam chain.
I still have the learning curve ahead for setting timing, though. Any suggestions on where to start at with my setup? 110/110? 108/108?

Engine Build Update

Engine Build Update

Finally got back to work on this project. Uploaded some new pics to the link below. The bored bottom case is together and the 83mm block and pistons are installed. The GSXR1100 head is modified with all unused oil ports plugged. Now working on degreeing the cams and then get her back in the frame. Also big thanks to Ray for all the help so far!

Marc,
Love the build, but you gotta embed the pics here so I know what goes with what. Click the little yellow box with a mountain in it and paste the URL of the photo from picasa. If you're using chrome it's easy, just R-click on the photo and select "copy URL".

We're lazy, and we don't want to go looking through your whole picasa account for the picture you're talking about.

With 100% respect. Hopefully my comment doesn't come off as a dick. :) :) :)
