A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just aquired an 82 GS1100G needs complete frame up rebuild. Bike is mostly complete. It was flipped end for end, front forks are tweaked, and at sometime in the past someone took a spark plug out and the engine seems to be locked up. My question is rebuild it or give it back to the guy I got it from? Have an 82 GS750T that I ride now, and have heard good things on here about the 1100's that's why I jumped on the chance to bring the poor old bike home. It's just the fact that after looking it over real good I realized it was going to be a money pit for a good while before I could even ride it. So If I'm going to sink a bunch of money into it I might just as well do it right and start from the frame up. Just looking for thoughts from the rest of you. Thanks Dave

If it was flipped end for end I would not spend a lot until makin sure the frame is OK. If you are lucky you might be able to rering the motor if the cyl is real rusty probably a rebore and new pistons Lower end should be fine IT's definately worth bringing back to life

You're right. This bike will probably require a lot of money and time to get it going again. I would add up the cost of the bike and an estimate of the cost of the repairs against just finding an 1100 that's already running. If you didn't pay much for the bike, it may be worth keeping as a parts bike. You could probably work up some estimates and compare the options.

I do think that when a bike has been in an accident, one should be very careful that there are no parts prone to failure at a bad time.

I can confirm that the 1100 is a great engine. I really like the power.
