DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have 82 gs550L. Looking for points and condensers for it. They are dual points and dual condensers. Went to suzuki dealer in cincy and he looked at me like I had two heads. I buy alot from Bikebandit and they don't even list a schematic on them. z1 has them but I don't know what type ignition it has. They have 6 to choose from. How do I tell what type ignition I have? Anywhere else I can buy this ignition kit?

Unless you have an exotic setup, you don't need no stinking points and condensers ! your stock ignition system SHOULD consist of signal generator coils and an ignitor to fire the sparkplug ignition coils. Sit on bike, there's a liitle 4 inch diameter cover on crankcase just in front of your right foot- take it off and report on what you find.

1982 GS550L points and condenser?

1982 GS550L points and condenser?

Like tom203 said your 1982 should have (from the factory anyway) an electronic ignition. Are you looking to convert to an older style points system, and if so, why?

I have recently bought a lot of OEM parts for my 1980 GS1000G from www.buymotorcycleparts.com It is related to Dillion Brothers Motorsports out of Omaha NE (www.dillioncycles.com) and they have come through on every rubber gromment and brake pad spring. I'd say worth checking out if you are looking for parts. I am in no way affiliated with them. I use bikebandit, Z1, denniskirk or anyone who claims to have it in stock.

Anyway, they don't show a GS550L model for 1982, only a GS55M, which shows an electronic ignition. So pull the 4 inch side cover on the right hand side of the bike and share back what you have and what you are trying to do.

Unless somebody replaced the motor (or just the crankcase) with a pre-80 model for the coveted (by some) kick starter...
