    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

82 GS650 front Brake light wiring question

Ok so had to retire/rework this whole nightmare from the PO. All I have left is the front brake switch. It could simply need taken apart cleaned and adjusted but on the wiring schematic it shows what they call a Red Tube in the white wire. What is this? A diode, in line fuse?
 
Unless the PO was very creative, your front brake switch should be wired like this diagram.... Does it appear that you have a kickstand warning switch?

I was just working on this today. The front brake switch has a spring loaded sliding contact that's held in with a plastic housing. It pretty simple to take apart and clean. Just watch out when you first unscrew the connection. The parts are all small and easy to lose.

Yeah. Ain't that the truth. Someone here once said loosen the master cylinder clamp and rotate the whole thing upside down....makes sense now ......that I have dropped all those bits doing it mounted regular a half dozen times .
Sometimes those switches need some fiddling. Clean the contacts good and there is a little bit of lateral adjustability with the contact board under the plastic cocer.
 
Ok so it is similar to the schematic but the wire on the right on the GS650 GL is white and on the drawing has a small spot where it states RED TUBE ?
I did how ever trace the issue down to the switch. I tried to take it apart clean it up and reinstall and adjust but it still makes per infant contact. I also noticed the previous owner switched out the lever with a diffrent one and that might be part of the issue. I have a couple other masters around that are newer with better switches does anyone know what size the stock master is as it is not marked on it?

The "red tube" is just a tube of red shrink-wrap over one of the wires, and it is right at the connector. It is there because there are two wires in that connector that have the same coloring, the red tube tells you which one is which.

If I remember correctly, the wire is orange/white. The one with the red tube is the feed wire that comes from the fusebox to the 'kill' switch. The wire after the kill switch is also orange/white, it goes to the ignitor and the coils, but does not have the red tube. The third wire in that connector is yellow/green, it goes to the "safety" switch at the clutch, then down to the starter solenoid.
