A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Nice find. Looks to be all there and super low miles to boot. Is it going to be a keeper or are you intending on flipping?

Cheers,
Spyug

Not sure yet, may sell as is or restore and sell or keep..:-k

Man these Katanas have been growing on me for a while now... except if I was to get one they're expensive here and I'd only want the pop-up...

Joe they're all good lookers to me, even when not restored :D

Sharp bike!

Sharp bike!

Where the Kat's all one size (cc) in the 80's or did they vary. Just learnin bout them. Only 80MPH??? Thought they went faster then that. Heck my 700EF has 140MPH speedo.

The '82 Big Kat was 1000cc due to AMA Superbike racing rules. The '83 Big Kat was an 1100 as the AMA changed to 750cc Superbikes. Those are the only Kats imported into the states as far as I know. There were also smaller models, including a 750cc with a pop-up headlight mentioned elsewhere in this thread. I'll leave it to those with more knowledge of those models to explain.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe, the USA got the 1000 & a 550 in 82. In 83 we got the 1100 & a shaft drive 650 also. I have always thought it strange that Suzuki did a shaft drive 650 instead of the chain drive that was available. The 750 pop-up headlight Kat that Canada & Europe got in 84-86 we didn't get. It is a cool looking 750 too!!! Ray.

We got the pop-up 750 over here in Aus too, that's the one I'd try to get if I was looking for one...

I do have to say I am not a sport bike fan but I find myself wanting one of those more and more. I really like the looks of those.... I blame smokinpankake....his custom job got me hooked.

Paul

check out the may and september 2002 Bike of the month. Especially may. wow, super bad. I am not into sport bikes too much yet, but that one make me like em alot more. Awesome score on your new Kat.... looks real nice already. Probably more Kats in the BOM, i have not been through all the years yet. really great bikes in there.

Your 82 1000SZ is beautiful! ....the one above YIKES! FUGLY!

Same bike ;).

Your Kat looks very nice as-is. I love restoring them, but if I found one like yours, I might be tempted to get it up to scratch mechanically and ride it. They're only original once.

Whatever you do, have fun with it.

It is going into full restore mode...:p

Well, finally have the space so we have a couple of builds going at a time so we tossed the Kat up on the ramp..

Good. I'll be following along.

Just sold mine this week and its being picked up on the weekend....if I can get the coil relay mod to work. I found I was down 2 volts at the coil and it wouldn't start. I wired in a relay tonight but after blowing a fuse or two I figured the relay was toast. I'll have to pick up another tomorrow and get this done before the new owner turns up.

Good luck with the project.

Cheers,
Spyug.

A very nice starting point. Is this a full go over? Down to frame and there up?

If this one turns out like all the rest of your restorations, Nardy's beauty might have a worthy companion. They've aged very gracefully and look better then ever today. PM me if you need a re-paint, Joe. I'd love a chance to be on board with this one, too. ;)
