A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My 83 has been running great all summer until yesterday I noticed the engine wasn't running on all 4 cylinders. With the engine running I removed the spark plug cap on each cylinder and found #4 had no affect on the engine idle.

Spark on #4 is very good. Changed the spark plug and same problem. Did a compression check and 155 lbs is great.

I'm thinking #4 isn't getting fuel. Whats the best way to verify this?

Hi babes. With the air box off, hold ya palm over the carb mouth to create a vacume and suck more fuel into the carb... If this doesnt happen, i think you have a blockage...
Do you have an inline filter? If yes, remove it and try again...
try those and repost what happens...good luck.

To verify that there is fuel in the carb: unscrew the drain on the bottom of the bowl. Put a cup or rag down there to catch the fuel. Put your petcock on prime and let it run to clean out the bottom of the bowl. You can carefully pour fuel back into the tank to keep any dirt out. Note that it is pretty rare for a bowl to go dry. Usually it's too much fuel from dirt in the fuel level needle valve or a bad float, but this is an easy test and usually cleans some dirt out of the float bowl.

Test exhaust pipe temp: use a rag to gently touch the exhaust header pipe. Is then number four pipe noticibly colder than the other three pipes? If it is, put on a little choke (starter enrichener). Does the number 4 pipe now get hot? If so, you probably have a plugged pilot jet or the rubber plug on the bottom of the pilot jet tube is seriously deteriorated.

I'd guess you will need to pull and clean these carbs, at least the pilot jets. If the bike had been running well before, that's probably all you'll need to do, so don't go adjusting idle mixture screws, bench synch or any of that unless you are prepared for a full carb rebuild and adjustment process.

My bike did the same thing when i bought it, i rebuilt the carbs and had the same issue until i sync'd em.all was well after.
