If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello,

I have an 83 gs750 that wasn't charging. I replaced the stator and rectifier and it seems to be charging now. With the bike at idle I get a reading of 13.61 on the multimeter from the battery. I wanted to check and see if this is good enough? It seems like its on the low end but acceptable.

Thanks, Dan

What are you getting at 5k? It should be somewhere between 14 and 15.5v.

Everything else checks out though. The battery is more charged after running the bike even at 5k rpm for a minute

Rewire the charging system to send the stator wires directly into the R/R?

I read that people had done that. Why do the original stator wires go up under the gas tank and then back down? When I replaced the stator the connections at the end under the tank were pretty corroded and burnout so I cut the wires on the bike side back an inch to where the wire looked clean and attached new connectors. I used connectors from the hardware store that matched but weren't copper.

I had cleaned the fuse box and put in new spark plugs. Fuse box looks free from corrosion. When i put the new stator in the wires at the end where it connects to the bike under the gas tank were pretty corroded and burnt out. I cut the wires back and inch on the bike side and put on new connectors from the hardware store. Do you agree with Nassism that wiring the stator directly to regulator is a good idea?

Thanks

There are about 10,000 posts here in the archives about how to fix the GS charging system.

1) wire stator directly into the R/R. Suzuki routed one leg of the stator feed through the hand control and this must be eliminated and cleaned up.

2) Improve R/R ground. Running the ground straight to the battery is the simple way.

3) Power output from R/R can feed into the old harness, into the fuse box, but you must check for voltage loss through the path on the way to the battery and fix/clean the connectors. Take your volt meter and put one probe on the R/R output wire and another on the + battery post and read the voltage. Then compare the same voltage against a reading straight across the battery. If you are reading more than .2 volts loss you have too much and the connectors must be cleaned/improved.

Extra bonus points for installing a SH775 or Compufire R/R. Do a search and learn how these devices help protect your stator from overheat damage. Credit to Posplyer for educating the forum on this matter.
