DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Close up pic. My goal was to tuck the plate up and have the shiny underside of the tailight assembly exposed.
many thanks....lot's of good info and saves me lots of time.

-put another 100kms on today and the GS keeps on improving.
-Lost thee screws off the fairing during previous rides which added some vibration, replaced them and used self locking nuts to prevent a repeat.
-fairing alignment wasn't great before but it's tightening up better now, the bike had been dropped before I got it so I suspect the Fairing frame maybe slightly bent.
-I opted for balance beads instead of wheel weights, then forgot to take the weights off the front wheel which probably added to the vibration I was getting, weights removed ride improved..
-I was looking at my mirrors and thought it strange that there wasn't very much adjustment, not something the big brains at Suzuki would overlook. So I tried spraying wd40 in the mirror stalk and it loosened up ...now I have acceptable coverage to left and right...directly behind still sucks and makes me nervous, some sport bike riders around here have a dangerous habit of closing fast and passing other solo bikers in their lane, I like to see what's coming at me....

Glad I could help. I have the same issues with my fairing. The bike came to me pre crashed, I crashed it once, and it got knocked over once. I've occasionally thought about removing it and trying to take measurements, etc to find where it's bent, but generally can't be bothered.

The bracketry comes up fairy regularly on e bay, but I never have the money, and it seems a bit of a crap shoot anyway.

I thought of straightening the frame but there's an impressive amount of variables at play so it wouldn't be easy. It might require constructing a jig to square it all up properly and if comes to down to that is it worth the effort?

Another thought on tail cowls, would a GSX-R be close enough in size to be adapted to a '84 GS? I've never seen a GSX-R in person but it looks similar and I see the cowls on ebay for about $100.

lost one of my bar end weights on my last ride, a cycle shop gave me two others they had laying on the parts counter...the new weights are 10.7ozs each the one I lost was 15ozs....will this difference matter at all? I didn't even notice I was missing one until I looked at the bar end this morning after the ride.

I bought Oxford heated grips has anyone else in colder areas have them? if you do where did you mount the control panel?

Not sure what the control panel looks like. My heaters came with a 3 way toggle switch. I made an angle bracket and bolted it to the fairing bracket bolt hole at the top of the steering stem.

it came with double sided pad or angled bracket for mounting options, I used the bracket and used the bolt that holds the clutch lever...

looking at the back end I thought about making a hard cover for the passenger seat, I was going to buy a 2nd seat on ebay remove the foam and use that as the base(saving the original seat) but prices and shipping costs killed that idea...so I thought about re upholstering my current passenger seat into a sleeker shape like the first Katana and using a red leather to match the body panels...what do you think?...

I can match the red paint exactly, most people aren't aware leather can be and is painted/sprayed...I already have the correct paint code if the upholsterers can't match the color to my specification.

all paint fades if it's left in the sun, red paint is just one of the worst but it's better than it was 30 yrs ago... my gs has always been garaged or covered and the damaged sections I just repainted are identical to the original 84 paint color.

so it's not a question if I can do it (I can) but how it will look when completed, possibly crappy but maybe great...
