    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

85 700 E EF Clutch cable snapped

Bringing the old girl home from winter storage when the clutch cable snapped. Saw it happening, but thought I could make it the rest of the way.

Ordered parts yesterday expecting them this Friday.

Anyways wondering if anyone has done this job before and can give me a walk through? Any advice, tips or tricks greatly appreciated.

Also any fellow 700E riders who can help with a copy of the manual that'd be stellar.

Basscliff has the manual on his site - the 700 like yours uses the standard 750 manual, the 700 details are a supplement. Regarding changing the cable, it's an easy job so you are not likely to find much detail in the manual.
 
Nick I have not done it but I have seen on several manuals where they show the pathing as to how the cable should be looped if you cant find that just make sure that you trace out the path of the current one. you dont want to kink it or put any undo strain on it.

Now comes the part I always hate to hear. Z1 enterprise is in Marion he has them in stock That is if you work out that way. I had a call out there when I bought a back up just in case. You can rig a sting for the gas if you need to but your are kinda stuck w/o a clutch as you now know:eek:

Now comes the WELCOME to the site and how far from Canandaigua are you? There is talk of a rally in May in Ferdonia / Cattaragus area are you intrested?

Thanks for all the help guys.
I got the new clutch installed yesterday afternoon. The whole job took about 2 hours.
I was totally unprepared for the mount of gunk and grime that I found inside the cover. I probably could have had the job done in 30 mins if I didn't have to clean so much.
Also, it would have helped to have an extra set of hands and an empty tank.
But its done and thats all that matters.
 
I took the new cable and taped it to the old one as I pulled it down under the tank. that way it was routed the same:-$ I was just too lazy to pull the tank.
It was more of a challenge to get the top and bottom adjusted to the right point.:cry:
