    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

85? engine in a 83 ES chassis?

I looked at an 83 GS750ES that had an 85 GS700ES motor in it (I think) it was very ratty with a completely wiped out seat. Someone painted it with black automotive undercoating probably because none of the bodywork matched in color some of which clearly were on another bike when it went down. It does however, run and seems to move through the gears correctly (I only infer this because the dashboard gear indicater said so, I did'nt ride it as the battery he had did'nt fit into the box) It also had bad tires and a thick layer of grease on the trans under the carbs. The original type fairing is worthless but the tank seems undented and has no rust. I talked him down to $400 but haven't bought it yet. Any ideas as to it's value? is $400 to much? I should note that I have pretty good mechanical abilities.

Yeah, $400 is way too much. Considering what it will cost you to replace and repair everything on it, I would not consider taking it for free unless I needed parts for something else. Keep looking, you can find a much better deal.

I wouldn't write it completely off. It needs maybe $250-300 in tires, battery, a yard of marine vinyl, and a few cans of paint.

The oil under the carbs is probably just a leak around the cam chain tensioner. A little elbow grease and a carb cleaning and it could be a good bike.

If you can get it for a couple of hundred it's worth the effort.
 
I got an 83 GS750E for $250. The seat had issues and the bodywork had some dings and cracks, but it was all there, correct and running. I picked up a replacement seat in perfect condition for $25 from ebay. The bike had 6600 miles on it. Compare that deal with the what you are looking at. I think $400 is too much for what you describe. What worries me is it sounds as though it was ill-maintained and trashed. I'd be worried about that mono-shock rear end and the engine if they skipped maintenance. I might go for $150 to $200 if I really wanted that bike. I figure I could get that from ebay parting it out, so if it didn't turn out well I'd be covered.
I really like my 83 GS750. I think Suzuki got this one exactly right. I can highly recommend the bike to anyone, but this particular bike sounds like has been abused. Maybe its just waiting for you to rescue it?

I bought that bike for $500. If you can pick up that bike for $100 great, maybe even $200. The bike may have enough parts on it so you could get a few hundred out of it if it didn't turn out ok. Be patient, as hard as it is, deals are out there, this one doesn't look like it is one.
