New to this forum. I've done some searching on this subject but perhaps not doing it correctly. My GS1150 has 20k miles on it and has started to leak pretty badly on the right side (oil soaked pant leg and a free boot shine). It's been difficult to identify the leak source, I suspect the base gasket or the cam chain tensioner gasket since the leaking oil is low on the cylinder wall and not up by the cyl head.. From this forum I see where I can use a foot powder spray on a clean engine to locate the leak source. I will try that. Today I also found a service manual that specifies retorquing the cyl head nuts every 3k miles. Well, that's not been done. Over the winter I replaced the head cover gasket and the head cover bolt seals. No leakage there. Any thoughts on next steps? Will a retorque buy me anything? If I have to replace the base gasket I assume that I have to remove the engine? Thanks.
