DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

was working on my bike, ( just got it home a few days ago)
have the seat off and noticed that a bolt is missing right where the seat
and tank meet. kept looking around and found that the entire tank can come off the frame. only thing that was holding it on is the petcock / reserve fuel line. ( is that the correct wording? )
want to take the tank off anyway, but did not realize it was that easy.
or should it be? lol !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
any ideas on what is missing? ie. bolt size, etc.

thanks

mike

Mike, I have a 1980 850 that has one bolt that holds it on. The guy before me crossthreaded the threads in the frame. I ended cleaning the threads up but didn't get a bolt that fit real snug, so I ended up putting a Nylon locking nut on the back side. There is plenty of room to get to it.

great idea

great idea

will try that, the mounting tab on the tank is huge, but the hole in the bike frame is pretty small, maybe 10mm or so. will try that, just thought that there would be more holding down that tank.

I don't remember the thread size but you should have a bolt, large washer, and grommet. looks like 10-14. http://www.bikebandit.com/assets/schematics/Suzuki/SU0109_038.gif

Don't mount it solid it needs the rubber spacers/washers
One hose is fuel the other smaller one is the vacuum hose for the petcock

the bolt size is M8x1.0

as noted, the original setup comes with a spacer and a rubber groomet so although you tighten the bolt fully, the tank is actually suspended on that rubber groomet

highpointbuc, yes...don't mount it solid. I did my technique using the original washer and rubber spacer with a new Steelless Steel bolt and SS Nylon Nut.

I recently got all new mounting hardware for my son's '81 850 from Bike Bandit.
You will need parts 10 through 14.
Cost is $6.30 plus shipping.
