I've noticed that there is not much aftermarket mods for the 850. I've tried to locate bigger bore piston sets for it with not much success. Is it not as popular due to the shaft drive or some other reason? Gene

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Although it was the heaviest GS made (except for the GK), and not really that high on power, it is a formula that just WORKS.
Seems that most of the 850 riders will go faster with suspension upgrades and better riding technique and don't need to rely on more power.
If you seriously want more power but want to retain your shaft drive, look into getting a 1000 or 1100.
Both are nice bikes, but tend to not be as smooth as an 850.
For some reason, the 850 seems to be a bit more finicky about intake mods, making it more frustrating than the other bikes.
Plenty of them with aftermarket exhaust, and a few with pods, but it's a headache doing it.

Suspension mods will give you a huge bang for the buck. Intake and exhaust mods will give you a huge headache most of the time. For whatever reason the 850 is particularly partial to its stock airbox, jetting, and exhaust, all properly connected and sealed. Properly running, the 850 isn't exactly shabby as a street motorcycle. If you must have increased horsepower it is probably a better use of your money and almost certainly of your time to sell the 850 and buy a larger displacement bike.
