A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

86 GS450: Fuel in the Airbox Question

I just went through all of this with my GS550L. I had the same problem. There is an excellent article on this website abouty rebuilding carbs. It looks like we have the same model. Mikuni BS32. Follow the article exactly and everthing should work fine. I see the O rings around the needle seats, (the parts with the screens on them) are dry rotted. This allows the gas to bypass the needle and seat and will leak into the carb throat and into the air box. A new set of O rings will work miracles. get them from Robert Barr. Easy transaction and you get all the O rings. I ordered a set of bowl gaskets from Bike Bandit. Once I did the rebuild I have had no leaking. Make sure that the petcock is operating properly. Remove the hose from the carb and place the end in an empty can. With the bike NOT running and the petcock in the run position, gas should not flow. If it does, it's probably shot. In the long run it's probably cheaper and easier to order an OEM petcock. Hope this helps.

Since my last post, I've actually done the following:

-Dipped the Carb
-Rebuild the Carb (Float Bowl Gaskets, Needles, O-rings***)
-New Suzuki Petcock

***On the Needle Seat O-rings, I used a regular O-ring, but when I looked at the old ones, they looked kind of square

RESULT:
-Turns over mostly with the Petcock in the "Prime" Position
-Seems like if it's warm, it turns over in with the Petcock in the "On" Position
-Idles best with Petcock position between "Prime" and "On". Holds Idle the Longest
-Idles with Petcock in the "Prime" position, but idles high
-When letting it idle, it needs to idle some what high, or I have to monitor the throttle and give it gas when idle drops
-Basically, the bike is STARVING FOR FUEL still.....and on top of that, Fuel is still getting to the Airbox, and draining through the bottom.

What can I try next? I'm in way more than expected, but there's no way I'm quitting or turning back. Thanks for sticking this through with all the help.
