DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey there, i know ive seen this question here, but can't it find it know .What are the positions prime run off etc can someone plz help me out
THANKS!!

on a standard vacuum style petcock:

ON or RUN: vacuum from the running engine opens the valve to let fuel through, the fuel pickup tube for this is about 2 or 3 inches from the bottom of the tank, and when you shut off the bike's engine, the valve closes automatically.

PRIme: this position bypasses the vacuum system and allows fuel to flow. Use this position if you completely run out of gas and need to refill your carburetor bowls.

REServe: this position works exactly like RUN/ON, except the fuel pickup tube is at the bottom of the tank. The difference between ON and REServe is usually about half a gallon or so enabling you to get to a gas station.

Actually i already know the functions was just wondering which position is run which position is prime 'reserve etc im not even sure the valve works right

I had the same question, but the arrow on my bike ('85 GS550E) is pointing UP!! Has my bike entered an alternate universe? (By the way, the knob on the petcock is plastic, not metal like the pictures of all of the petcocks that I have seen online.)

wort, if you enlarge this fiche, you can clearly see that the lever does appear to be plastic and, like all GS petcocks (without the large round knob and except for 1980), up is ON forward is RESERVE and back is PRIME.
Note: BEFORE taking any advice from forum members, check out which ones screw up everything that they touch yet still offer advice to others.)

Thanks for the quick reply. Mine has the large round plastic handle. It rotates from up to back to down. It can't go forward.

Thanks again.

That's it! My bike has been painted, so there are no markings like that.

You are a sleuth and a genius.
