A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finiky little suckers.

Finiky little suckers.

These carbs a touchy little bastards but they make for some pretty good "poor mans" flat slides if you can get them sorted out. I'm sure you've had them appart several times but you have to make sure the float assebly is seated all the way down on the float valve before you screw the bowls back on. Also, the float hinge is part of this platstic assembly that can get old and warped by this time in it's age. My number two was warped enough to allow the float to come out of the hinge. Caused the bike to act just as you described till I pulled the frame back together with a little copper wire. Other than that a bike that only runs with the choke on might be too lean. If I rember right I was running 117.5's on the one and and four carbs and 120 mains on the center two. Then settled down to 117.5's on all four. This was on an 89 GSX'r 750 with pods and a wide open SS2'r exhaust. I think my pilots were atleast 35's with no bleed holes. I only bring all this up because a factory set of GSX'r carbs will be jetted waaaaay lean. Put them on an old GS and you might be looking at having to go even richer than I did.

I do see that you are running 130's in it though wich would suggest the mains are not the lean problem so something mechanical might be the best place to start. with the carbs off of the bike I like to adjust the idle and balancing screws till just a hint of light is coming evenly through all four carbs. Makes initial starting of a bike gobs easier after working on the carbs.

Thanks for the useful info Where sould i set float level?

Float height

Float height

Never messed with the float height on mine as the tabs that shut off the valves are stainless and riveted to the plastic float assembly. They don't seem to move around like the old tin ones in the GS line. I checked all of them to make sure they were the same then moved on.
