DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

92 GSXR 1127 engine into 750F Katana, [sick]

welded on the bracing

welded on the bracing

This is old school bracing, I think they were doing this back in the 60s. I was copying the SRAD swingarm.
Anyway, it's solid and only added about 20oz of steel. And it's kinked outward on the chain side for clearance, will have to test it. The chain might wack it when lose.

Swingarm widening mod, completed

Swingarm widening mod, completed

OK, here's some pics, the swingarm project is completed, successful!
Thanks Kreylyn at katriders.com!
Clearance with Michelin Power Pilot 180/55, it's actually only 178mm wide.
I did not have to bend or reshape the brake arm or bracket, just moved it to the right and spaced with 3 washers and new bolt.
The new chain only has 116 links, 118 is standard, but the mod shortened the swingarm, so 118 was too long.

At the risk of sounding crass, why didn't you install a gsxr swing arm on the bike. Seems like it would have been a more direct installation.

Not a direct installation, the K frame needs extensive mods to make it work. Old timers on katriders.com say it's not worth the hassle.

Bill, that swingarm mod would have me concern. I'd be welding on some big a$$ reinforcement plates over those weld joints. If one of those welds breaks you hit the ground.

True, but seems I'm the 1st to do any reinforcing over that mod to a Kat swingarm. I was told by the guy who does many of these, that it don't need more bracing.
I have plates welded across the undersides where the separation stress will be, and I have triangle bracing above.
The cuts and welds are only on 3 sides of the square tubing.
A lot of people are concerned anybody should ride a motorcycle. ;)

Bike is on the road!

Bike is on the road!

Ok, long wait but I got the bike running and on the road, did 50 miles today.
Idle is still high at 2300 RPM, and that may be a cam and valve issue I don't wanna deal with during track season. This will work very well for a trackday bike.
I think I got a medium cool bike?

So when's the next trackday and where?

I didn't read all the posts, is there some reason it's idling so high?

Next trackday, can't make up my mind, but this month. Wanna be sure of the bike, but no problems so far.
Also like to ride trackday at Road America last week before the July 4th weekend.
Why it's idling high? Wish I knew, I'm just an amateur engine tech.

Project not finished, damn!

Project not finished, damn!

Ok, so I got a wild hair up my ass to spend more money on my 26 year old Katana.
So I'm looking at replacing the steel subframe with an aluminum subframe from a 93 GSXR.

Plus a SRAD type tail from Air Tech, all fiberglass.
