A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Here's the overall.

And a close up of the end.I prefer the "dogleg"style levers myself. These are eBay knock offs.

Thanks for the photos Greg. I very much appreciated seeing them.

Is the problem in getting the later lever to fit the '78's perch, the slight difference in curvature near where the ball of the cable seats?, or is it the length of the area where the little notch is?

This would have to come off.Not he exact cut line but the best I could get it.

Exactly what I was looking to find out. I really appreciate it Greg!

Happy I could help Dale.

Weather stripped the airbox lid.
2012_03150010.jpg

Seems a bit odd to worry about that with these in the box but I did it anyway.
2012_03150013.jpg

The glove box cleaned up real nice, repainted the tool holder.

2012_03150016.jpg

A bit more sanding to get rid of the rat bike matte black:-& Looks good just a coat of primer I think.
2012_03150015.jpg

The sidecovers are looking to be in great shape, thinking I'll just leave them in they're original state. Two less things to paint;)

2012_03150018.jpg

Dale (rustybronco) suggested polishing the sidecovers, much better.Chuck Hann sent me the badges.Repainted the black and red to freshen them up.

Wow. A little polishing and it's a stark difference. Looking good.

What'd you do to polish them?

Stripping is done, only 4 dents to take care of.Not bad for a tank it's age.Started refining the seat trim to,Another layer of slurry tomorrow.

Awesome work SV. I have some plastic repairs to do myself and now I know how!

Thanks Sci,plastic welding works great for the pieces that are not ABS.For the ABS ones slurry is the best.Speaking of that:

Filled the repairs with bondo and primed it up.
2012_03230001.jpg

Did the tank to,found a few more shallow dents so I filled those.

Here's where I have a problem:

2012_03230008.jpg

2012_03230009.jpg

Two different primers have caused the tails paint to "check".Can I just sand the primer smooth or do I need to sand all the paint off?

I've usually had to sand it all off and everything close by and make sure it's absolutely pristine before spraying again. Good luck.

Nice progress Greg!

On the primers... I just know what Dale and Larry would say, sand it back and start again... and I reckon that makes sense. If your primer is having issues, imagine what the top coat's going to do... sorry to say that though :(
