A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Actual carb removal

I'd just get a piece of plastic, and epoxy it over the hole. Is the pilot jet damaged ?

Re: The jet

Yeah, it was damaged before we even got our hands on it. It had been stripped by the previous owner. Then my friend and I probably made it worse, although we honestly never could get a grip on it. So it ultimately got drilled out. I don't think I would have wanted to reuse it anyway due to the stripping, but now it's unusable. I'm at work and it's at home, so I'll double check, but I'm pretty sure it has a nice big hole drilled in the center of it.

Re: The airbox

You know, my friend recommended that as well, and I forgot all about it. I believe I probably will go the epoxy route.

Warning, they are VERY expensive. :-\\\

I got them at Big Lots. The 6-place tins come in a package of two for 99 cents. I got two packages, so it was about $2.12 with tax. :p

(Yeah, there are more than four tins in the picture. I liked the idea, so I went back and got more.)

.

I simply bogarted an old steel muffin tin from the kitchen for this work. It has 12 cups (3 x 4) so I can sort carb bits by cylinder. Of course, it stays in the garage to avoid the risk of Berryman flavored cupcakes . . .

Here is the piece with the missing rubber stopper, compared to one from carb 2 that is in tact:

Cleaned up carbs!

Um, can anyone help me identify the rubber stopper missing from the third to last picture above? What part number is that on the carb blowout bccap posted earlier? Was 38 right? I'm not sure that's the right one.

I want to get these ordered soon...the weather is too nice!

Finally...

Finally...

Well, I've been conversing with Ashley from Boulevard Suzuki, recommended by bccap a while back, for close to a month now. After a hefty amount of leg work, they have identified and obtained the two parts I needed so I can start rebuilding these suckers.

Shipping out today, and I'll start the rebuild work upon arrival.

Probably just going to use some kind of epoxy to cover the hole in the airbox.

Funny enough, I don't think the choke plunger and individual pieces are separate/available parts.

Was Ashley able to provide a part number, or did she perform some sort of voodoo hocus pocus to turn up a set for you?

The parts arrived, individually wrapped in parts bags with parts numbers, etc. They have an entire carb blowout with every teeny tiny part listed separately, so either they are available individually, or she is a magician.

Now it's just a matter of dedicating the time necessary to reassembly.

Although I did hold off on buying the replacement intake boot I need, hoping to find one locally and not wait another month.

Embarrassing bit about the rubber piece - it wasn't missing, just assembled wrong. When I finally bothered to take a closer look, I noticed this almost immediately. But I suppose replacing a 30 year old part with a new one isn't a bad idea anyway.

I wondered about that rubber gasket in that picture...you just had the nut on backwards? I'm surprised nobody picked up on that.

I didn't have it on backwards. I didn't disassemble anything that didn't need disassembled. I assume one of my friends did it, or I would have noticed it much sooner. Literally, the first time I actually sat down with it, I was like "oh..."

So it goes.

As for no one else catching it...well, I dunno. It isn't the best picture in the world. Maybe others wondered, but said nothing? Beats me.
