    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was wondering what plugs to avoid for an 82 GS850 if any. Should I just go the OEM NGK route?

My GS850GLZ was delivered with Nippondenso plugs. I always tracked mileage on my GS850GLZ, from the first mile till over 100,000 miles. I noted that the mileage always increased after a plug change. But after a plug change the mileage would drop much sooner with NGKs than with the equivalent Nippondenso.

The Nippondenso plug are typically harder to find at the bike shops as they tend to carry the NGKs but most don't stock the Nippondenso plugs. Fortunately the Nippondenso plugs are usually easy to locate at local auto parts stores and are generally much cheaper there.

FWIW the exact opposite is true in my Goldwing. NGKs last much longer than Nippondensos in that engine.
 
I consider NGK and Nippondenso interchangeable. Both are quality plugs. Generally auto parts have better prices if you can find them there. Doesn't do me any good for my GS, though; they don't carry the smaller plugs it uses.

Rub it in guys. I have 2 Autozones near me; both give me a blank stare, try to look them up, and give me another blank stare. Thanks a lot.
Of course, when I asked about an engine hoist they showed me a transmission jack. Sigh.

If I'm not mistaken the P# at Autozone is 2411.
If ya go in and ask for NGK B8ES they do indeed look at ya silly.

If the P# is incorrect just have em look up your bike. Should be in their system.

My bike uses D8-EA. :(
Trust me, I have owned the bike for 7 years; I have looked.
Now I did find the B9ES that the GPz uses at O'Reilly; I bought every one they had.
And the O'Reilly is just past the K-Mart that carries the beans; I bought a bunch there also. :D

NGK B8ES is all you need. Don't be fooled into buying spark plugs with flux capacitors, irridium, or other junk.

Autolite makes a good one for the 1100e the prostock dragbikes used em I can't remember the number

Interesting. never went with an American plug in a Japanese bike, at least since I could afford the correct plugs. ;)
 
Hehe I never tried them my bikes have always ran great with ngk so why change. And we have 5 different bike dealers so ngks are easy to come by

Interesting Kaw used the same plug as the GS, in a cooler version. You could also use B8ES as they'd be a little hotter spark.
 
My 81 KZ750E also used the B8ES plugs. The GPz is a higher compression motor with a slightly different squish area, which is probably why they went one range cooler.
Since my current compression is ~10.50 - 10.75 I believe I will stick with the B9ES plugs or switch to Nippondenso W24ESU. So far the NGKs are fine and I have two sets of spares, so I am good.
 
I believe the W24ESU is same as B8ES. Cooler would be B9ES or W27ESU.
 
Hmmmmmm,thought all my bikes where D8EA.Was thinking of getting a bunch of them.Looked it up,the 1000 takes B8EA:-\\\
