OK, I still cannot find the problem with my son's GS650! It was blowing main fuses as soon as you put them in, without even turning the key on! I took off the switch on the bars to check for shorts, bare wires, etc...found none. Replaced the switch with a new one, but the starter doesn't work. I can start the bike by using a screwdriver and touching the connections on the solenoid. The bike fires right up and runs fine then. So, can I just get an aftermarket starter button and wire it directly to the solenoid, one wire on the positive, one wire on the negative, and then mount it somewhere on the bike to use as a starter? I tried buying a starter switch from an auto parts store yesterday,, and hooking it up like this, but as soon as I tried connecting the second wire to the solenoid, it started to turn the bike over as soon as I touched the wire to it.Should not the starter switch keep that from happening? Seems like it shouldn't start until you push the button? I'm out of ideas.....help?
