A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I purchased Maxima Fab1 air filter oil from the dealer today. After I cleaned and let dry the filter, I started to "Sparingly" spray the filter. As per their instructions I started Inside, then out. Man, that stuff came out like Freon? It was so cold. Then I noticed what looked like "Caviar" falling all over the place. I realized it was my filter falling apart? Anyone ever have this before? I definately don't want to put this filter back on. Now what?

Thanks

ive had that happen with old filters. you just dont see how bad the filter is untill its dry and then it starts falling apart. almost like the old filter oil was holding the thing together. time for a new filter id say.

Anyone know where to get a filter?
Can't find it except @ bikebandit under oem for like $30.

I'm assuming this filter was foam? Foam filters will deteriorate after time.
I would buy a K&N filter/K&N oil. Other oils may work, but they have to say "for gauze type filters". TheK&N filter will last a lifetime if taken care of.
I've never heard of oiling from the inside, then out. At least not with gauze filters. You do RINSE a gauze filter from the inside out only.

Ok, has anyone ever MADE their own air filter? Sounds crazy, but hear me out.

For those of you who don't know the filter in my '83 GS750e, it's just a round cylinder foam. No screen, no re-inforcement, just plain old foam. Cheap foam. I can't find one, only at Bikebandit for $28 + shipping. Locally is the same thing.

SO, I went to a local shop that I "Thought" I had seen a universal foam filter before, Turns out it is just a sheet of foam from "Uni" filter. Included is instructions on how to cut and Glue it to make your filter. I see NO reason why this wouldn't work. It also gives you a couple different glue names that you can use on the foam.

For $12 I'm going to give it a shot. Just wondered if anyone else has tried this. It looks about the same density of foam. If nothing else, it may be a tad more dense. Which could be good as I'm a tad on the lean side with my plugs.

Let you know how it turns out.

I know it would cost more, but I'd buy the correct filter for it, preferably a K&N.
If this do it yourself foam filter flows less than stock, you'll have jetting issues that may be more trouble for you and the motor.
I'd ask for an early Christmas gift and order a K&N or correct filter. :)
