DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Where does the very slight mix of oil and petrol come from?
I have been on a run there is a slight drip from the air filter box.
I am not too concerned but would like to sort it

Hi Mr. thicklotto,

A couple of suggestions...It comes from your carbs. Check the vacuum line(s) and float levels. Check for a stuck float valve. Check your oil to be sure no gas is leaking in there. You don't want to run on diluted oil.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

This happened to me once. I put too much red oil on the K&N filter, and the carbs "bled" gas because I think the carbs weren't getting enough air. Before you rebuild the whole carb set, with all those teeny tiny pieces, try fixing the air cleaner. It worked for me.

Air Filter

The Air Box has a hose drain going through the it.It goes into a hole in the top ( just pushes in)then protrudes out of the bottom and passes through the frame etc.Should the pipe be pushed right through so it seals.
Should the Box be completely air tight? It has 3 or 4 holes inthe bottom of the box at either end. They dont go right through. As I said previously oil had been dripping around the 2 screws underneath which hold the end on.

The vent from the crankcase feeds into the airbox so you get a little smoke that then condenses and forms what you are seeing. You probably also get fuel vapors when the engine is shut down that find their way to the airbox. It's meant to be that way. And no, don't connect the two ends even if there is a way to do it.

Air Filter

Billy, How are the fumes/oil etc suposed to get out of the air box.
There is no drain on it.What does the drain hose into the top actually do.
Should it be be an air tight box?

Thanx

The line that goes into the top of the airbox generally runs to the valve cover and allows the crankcase to breath. There should be a small cylindrical shaped piece of dense metal mesh in the bottom of the airbox covering a drain that allows the mess to make its way out of the airbox.

Those vapours from the cam covers are supposed to go back through the engine to be burned.(that's the theory) Age(wear), overfilling the crankcase, lugging and oil dilution/ breakdown can overwhelm this system so they put a hole(2words) in the air box to drain it, there is usually a hose on it.(I like brackets)...

Air Box

Thanks folks for all the advice. There is no actual drain in the bottom of the air box,so I am not sure where the 'mess ' is supposed to go.
Its only done 10000 miles and runs well.I'm still a bit confused by it all.
