A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys,

I am rebuilding the carbs on my 79 GS750 L. I set the float levels at 27mm per my manual.

It doesn't say anything about air screw adjustment. I am guessing the air screws are located on the bottom of the bowl. Anyone know how many turns out?

What about he screws on the outside of the carbs. Anyone know how many turns out? What are they called?

Thanks for all your help,

Al

I strongly suggest you read the VM carb rebuild series linked here http://www.thegsresources.com/files/vm_carb_rebuild.pdf

Float height should be 24mm not 27mm.

Also, there are two adjustments you need to make; fuel screw and air screw. The instructions give you good starting points.

Replacing the various o-rings is strongly recommended as well if you have not already done so. http://cycleorings.com/

Good luck.

Float Level

Thank you for posting that is a huge help. :-D

Are you sure about the float level of 24mm when i set them that low they don't look right. The adjustment tabs are sticking way out like 2 - 3mm above the float frame. With the carbs tipped upside down.

At 27mm the tab is about = to the float frame height.

How sure are you about 24mm float height on a 79 GS750L?

The manual from a 76 GS750 says to set the float height from 25mm 27mm

Thanks for your input

Thanks again for your input. I am going to repost this under the proper heading.

Sorry for the confusion. I made a mistake. You are correct.

Not sure there is a "correct" setting. I set my VM 550 carbs to 1 turn on fuel and 1-3/4 on air and it runs great.
