A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finally got new airbox boots for my 82 gs850gl, may be a silly question but should I oil or put some kind of grease around the slot before installing the new ones in the airbox? Just do not know. Happy New Year!!!

Not necessary, but a little spray lube may help get them into place. Just make sure the inner spring clamps hold the boots secure.:)

New boots are on...much better fit :). Old ones were looser in the airbox and just grabbed the carbs. These are tight in the box and slipped all the way on the carbs with a snug fit. Hope this fixes my woes with this bike of mine. I'll try starting tomorrow and keep you guys updated, wish me luck. Thanks all.

Can you explain the inner spring clamps please? What form do they take? How do they hold the boots in place?

They are about 1/16" thick x 1/2" spring steel in a circle with aprox 1/2" cut out of the circle. If you look inside the rubber boot there is a recessed area where this needs to seat. Install the boot in the airbox, then I've just squeezed the clamp got it partially in and then worked it into a seated position by going around it with a flathead screwdriver a little at a time till it was seated properly. Kind of a pain the first couple of times but once you get the hang of it they go in pretty easy, just dont force it or slip with the screwdriver as you can scratch or gouge the boot. There should be a little dot on the outer ring on the boot that will be close to the airbox when installed, this dot should line up between the dots on your airbox. I say between because my airbox had 2 dots and in lining the single on the boot between the 2 on the airbox worked for me. As for what they do I assume they help keep them in place and seal better. Hope this helps.

To remove them take a flathead screwdriver and push in on the back end or opposite the cut out portion of the clamp. You may need to do this a few time as it took a few tries till I got them to seat right.
