A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Airbox drain hose missing

I started to install my carbs after painting them and discovered the airbox drain hose was missing (1983 GS1100E). This would be a vacuum leak if not replaced so is it acceptable to make one using fuel hose and some type of fuel proof foam air filter material? If so, what material would be used? It's only a $13 part but it is now holding up my project.

I keep meaning to inspect one of these airbox drain hoses, but I'm easily distracted. I suspect it might be a one way gizmo valve- a plastic ball inside a tube. Under the slight vacuum of airbox, the ball gets sucked up against a stop .to prevent a air leak. When no vacuum, engine off, the ball drops/floats and any accumulating liquid can flow out the hose.
for now, just plug it up and get your project moving.

I bought a new OEM tube, it has a removable plug in it. Guess they figure out the old open tube type with a thick piece of foam in it wasn't that good.

Thank you gentlemen. I think I'll use some fuel hose and plug it if that's all that's really needed.

Thin walled vinyl tubing run from box down somewhere between swing arm and engine..plastic plug in the end. drain condensaton from time to time.
