airbox hoses aka: boots

So I'm getting ready to refresh the airbox to carb boots with wintergreen oil. Some of the members here say to simply replace them but I cannot find new replacements.

Z1 has new boots for the 79 "850" but not for the "1000". My question: will these work as suitable replacements? I checked the parts fiches and found the numbers for the carbs to be different. I know the airbox design is different but has anyone done this with success? Not sure if the two models used the same size carbs, much less the same boots.

Thanks,

Larry

I believe the 850 and 1000 both have VM26 carbs, so the boots should be pretty close, if not the same.

.

The carbs on a 79 850 and 79 1000 are identical. The air boxes are different though, but I'm pretty sure the airbox boots will fit regardless but hopefully someone else can chime in on the matter. I know I've bought new airbox boots for my 78' 1000, which has the exact same airbox as the 79' and I know I bought them from Z1 but I'm not sure which model I chose from, either the 79 850 or the 78/79 750.

Thanks for your input. Unless someone disputes this fact, I will go ahead and order the 850 boots. I'll wait a week or so to see if I get any information as to their fitting or not.

I tried to purchase some new airbox-to-carb boots for my 79 1000S. All of the online vendors show them in the exploded view diagrams but none of them list them as having a part number.
I contacted Robinson's Foundry in the UK to check on availability and was told they can't be purchased. Given that the original Suzuki diagrams (as used by the online vendors) doesn't show a part number makes me wonder if they were ever available as a separate item.

Can you try Z1 enterprises? It appears the ones they list for the 79 850 might just be the same as the ones for the 1000. I went ahead with my order so in just a few days I will be able to show a comparison of them with my old ones. Pics will follow once I receive the new ones.

Sealpup, I received today from Z1 enterprises an order for carb to airbox boots that fits my 79 gs 1000. I had to order the ones for the 79 year 750/850. Those all used the 26 mm vm carbs. The old ones I removed and soaked them in wintergreen oil and xylene for 12 hrs. and they are really flexible now. They are even more pliable than the new ones.

Hope this helps you.

The 8 valve GS750 air box boots, still available new, fit a GS1000 fine. The trumpet inside the air box is about 5mm shorter but it doesn't affect anything.

Yeah, I found them, thanks alke46. Suzuki P/N 13728-45010 is listed for the 1979 750 and 850 models. I got the part numbers from the Z1 website. Man, they're expensive from Z1. I plugged the part number into the search function on other online vendors and got wild variations in price (from $16 at Alpha-Sports to $45 at Z1).

I still can't find them shown (with part numbers) on any online store fiche diagram. Weird. Or maybe just me.

I need some of these too. I found them at www.suzukipartshouse.com for $11. I'm probably going to start a thread later today detailing my upcoming adventures with rebuilding the air intake. Good luck!

Make sure you know what you are getting. That $11 is only for 1 and you will need 4. Close to the same price Z1 is charging.

Alke46, in response to your post above, I must retract my previous comment about the price of the boots from Z1. I didn't note that the price is for a quantity of 4. All other vendors I checked sell them individually, hence the price differential.

Thanks again.
