    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Airbox Repair

The airbox on my 78 750 has at least on of the boots that doesn't seal well against the box (it spins, and you can see light through a small gap). Has anyone fixed one these?

I have some ideas but I thought I would probe smarter minds. I did search for a while but came up with nothing. If there is a relevant thread you know of that would be great!

You can use black RTV silicone on the inside of the box to seal them. If they are getting hard it's time to replace them. If they are still pliable, the silicone will work. Ray.
 
Some silicon sealant would do the trick. One thing I have noticed on these old air boxes is they are plugging up with rust on the crankcase vent hose fitting. I just blow through the fitting and it should pass the air easily. If not use some compressed air and piano wire to clear the passages. The crankcase pressure must be released or oil leaks will develop. Did you get that muffler I sent you yet. Dan

Yes, the boots are still really pliable. So do I just reach inside and put a bead around the back wall of the box where the boot goes in?

Yes, got the muffler. Thanks Dan!

It cleaned up real nice (elbow grease/sos pads and some rust remover). I just got done dipping/cleaning the carbs and popped them back on. Put the pipes and mufflers back. She fired right up and sounds great! When I bought the bike about a month ago, cylinder #3 wasn't working (pipe was cool). After the carb clean (o-rings, etc), #3 got super hot! It's always fun when things go right!

Now, I need to fix the airbox--oh, and do the valve clearances:)!
