    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Airbox Vs Pods = WINNER AIRBOX!!!

Yikes what a crapshoot.
I found out today why the airbox is the better choice over these EMGO pod filters.

When the EMGO pod filters get wet you can say goodbye to your airflow into the engine.

I was burning rich the whole way to work. Some thug-gangster-wannabe even rolled up his window and moved his car away from me at the stoplight because the exhaust stank so bad of gas.

I was soooo embarassed.

The K&N's on my '78 750 weren't affected by rain that much, and I ran the thing without a rear fender. But I only rode in the rain once with that thing during a photoshoot. :mrgreen:
 
Ah ha.
I am upgrading to K&N filters too in a month. I have to, these emgo pods suck.

I'm downgrading to 115 main jets next week. That should clear up the richness problem when it rains until then.

According to the jetting guide posted here...

...that is what size I needed anyway, not these 122.5's.

I'm really realizing that the dynojet kits are so out of spec that I could have bought the individual jets myself and done it faster than starting with that bogus kit. :roll: :P

But, it's been a great learning experience that's for sure.

you have another issue going on, not something with the filters. i can ride for horus in the rain with my emgo's - and i have.
 
May I ask how much you pay for the K&N's? Overhere they are asking $240 for 4 of the things 8O same ones as yours, if you are using the oval ones that is.

Yes, AOD. I do have something else going on.
I found out today that my main jets are still too big. According to the mikuni jetting guide I need to run 115 main jets for my bike. These 122.5 jets are way too rich and probably the reason that I'm running rich in the rain and slightly rich in dry weather.

After the main jets get here next week I'll see how the bike runs.
The new/correct jets will probably get rid of my sooty plugs and hesitation at 2500 rpm.

I believe you will be pleased with the 115's. V&H recommends 115's on a 750 for their 4 into 1 with filters. :-)

My 1150 only runs 122.5's and 120's. :-) :-) I doubt you can flow more fuel and air than the 1150. eh eh eh

On the great Midwestern GS SCUBA ride, I believe a few guys were having problems with their pods clogging in the rain. Jim from Cincinnati kept needing to rev his engine to clear out his pods. You didn't have any trouble, Adam?

Of course, it was raining so dang hard, you could argue it was hard for the humans to breathe, too. My GS850 with the stock airbox ran fine.
 
My 82 1000 Katana with a stock air box hates the rain more than I do. My 1150 with pods doesnt care.
 
that was by far the ultimate rain test for a bike. i had NO issues whatsoever with mine...which is goofy when compared to others. the only time i've ever had a problem was after washing the bike at a carwash...after it started up it took a few minutes to burn off all the water in the carbs.

Ryan also had a problem with his bike in the rain...which i know he's had before. The way i see it, the paper filters get wet...and dont breathe as easy. The metal mesh Emgo's dont soak up water.

Detman, you can't say the Emgo's suck and are to blame. It is your fault. :)

My brothers bike would cut out at high rpms with those round emgo filters. We put a stage three kit in the carbs and he cheaped out on the filters and used the same filters, he kept telling me I must have missed some dirt in the carbs when I was installing the stage three kit. As soon as i installed the K&N oval cone filters off of my bike the high speed miss cleared up and has been running strong ever since.
 
My GS1100E came with filter pods on it. The pods are chrome and oval in shape, unsure of brand. My bike runs great until it starts to rain and then starts spitting and spuddering. Let it sit awhile after the rain and it starts right up and goes. I think I will keep an eye out for a cheap stock airbox and cover, or perhaps swap my pods for one.
 
RAIN IS NO PROBLEM JUST WRAP THEM WITH GARBAGE BAGS TO KEEP THE WATER OFF.

Why I didn't see this before I don't know, but I thank God that I know it now. I can't wait for my 115's to arrive!!! :D

It is my fault. I chose the wrong main jets and didn't account for wet weather.

If memory serves, the stock jetting in a 700 is 122.5 too. I think it has a lot to do with the size of the venturi.
