    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

When you are looking for replacement stators for your blown Suzuki ones, which can be quite pricey, try cross referencing your stator to some of the Kawasaki models. Some models of Kawasaki use the same stators as various Suzuki models. You can cheat and use the Electrex charts to compare. Example: '79 GS1000 uses the G2 replacement and if you look at the Kawasaki chart so does the GP/GPZ 550's. You just have to swap over your wiring harness. Quite often the Kawasaki's are a lot cheaper. I guess they weren't as prone to failure so there is more of them available. When changing the harness over make sure you use good in-line crimp connectors as well as solder and of course shrink tube. Solder only connections can easily fail if the wire is over heated.
 
I needed an 82 1100E stator and did what you describe. I failed to read the fine print on the Electrex site though and wound up with a useless single-phase Kawasaki KZ440LTD stator. Turns out that the Kawa stator does not work in the GS1100, but they both can be replaced with the same Electrex setup. Out $20 until I resell the useless stator.

So be careful.

I have heard of this being done with the stators off the GP550/GPZ550 series Kawasaks as stated in my first post. Not the single phase stator off of the KZ440. I didn't even mention KZ440 in that post. Check the Electrex fitment guide and you will see that the 550 series takes the same three phase stator as most Suzukis. The 440 will only take the G2 three phase stator replacement if you also change the R/R at the same time. It comes stock with a single phase stator so the stock one won't work on the Suzukis.
 
Alternator and reg/rec blew on my 750kat a few years ago, used a Kwak GT750 alternator I had lying around and reg/rec off of a superdream. 3 years later and still going strong. :D

Yes, it was my oversight and failure to read the fine print which gave me a useless stator. No blame but my own.
