A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

new to me GS1000G, inside the fairing where the cig lighter and stereo power and ground wires are, I'm getting power where there should be ground wires. I got out my test light and in the center of the cig. lighter, it lit, I touched it to the outer ring of the cig lighter, and it lit. I tried the same with the ground wire and the power wire for the radio, both lit. I feel like its shorted out somewhere, and I'm told the original stereo burnt up in it and quit working, more reason for me to assume there is a short. where would you guys suggest starting to search for the culprit?

You might be reading power on all of those points, but there is no short or you would be frying wires and the battery would drain immediately. We need to see pictures of what you are doing and what type of test equipment you are using. I am assuming all of this is mounted on a fiberglass fairing. If your test light has a ground lead that clips to the battery ground and a probe that lights the light when you complete the circuit, I would assume that maybe there were some melted wires going to the fairing that energized all the points you mentioned but no ground path to the battery or you would indeed have a short. I would suggest tracing the wires from the fairing back inspecting it for heat damage and open the harness covering to find any damaged or melted wiring that might have caused the radio melt down in the first place.

I would be looking for a loose ground wire. :-k

If your test light is grounded to the battery, you can touch any powered wire and see it light up. If that wire goes to a device (light, or something else) you can also see it light up if the ground wire of that device is not connected.
