I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Angry, and about to light a GS on fire...

Please post pics of your angriness...:-D

Well i assume so, and i know that is assuming and what it leads too, but we swapped threes wire to two, and one to four, and the problem didnt follow the wires. Stayed on the offending cylinders

This makes me think it's still with only the plugs or carbs 3 & 4. Move the plugs with the wires and see if the condition changes...or as mentioned... get another set of plugs.

I got a couple bad NGK's recently from Advance Auto.

I hear you. I'm about to light an XS1100 on fire as well. I've been working on it for a long time and thought I was about done. Last week I discovered a bent valve, and now I'm going to have to pull the head.

Maybe we can put them together and have us a big ol' fire....

Sounds like timing to me if the plugs are good & also wet. Either that or you are losing your spark out of the wire against the head (but it should follow the wire unless they are all bad in the same spots & it's the particular bend that is doing it...)

Did you time the Dyna properly?? You need to use the right mark on the metal plate & then time it at full advance like the instructions say..... worked out alright on my G....

Dan :)

well we did try swapping the plugs And it did make a diffrence. I have a manual petcock but I do have a plug covering the tube off the number 2 carb. It look like i need to try again on timing on the dyna s

I had similar problems with my GS850. I had double checked all settings, etc. and motor would run on one or two or sometimes three cylinders. It kept moving around. As a last resort I installed a new battery and motor ran as it should. I believe I didn`t have the proper amount of juice to make it run right. Just a thought for you.

worth a look.

A very valid point and at least worth looking into. Sometimes the most obvious things are the hardest to find. (see also; grounds)

Something I found out on an old Honda that had stood for a short time was that in the petrol tank and the float bowls water can separate out fairly quickly and sit on the bottom. The first couple of "sucks" the engine does pulls in air/water mixture.
In the chamber cold water vapour and hot spark can cause hairline fractures in the porcelain of the spark plug that are virtually impossible to see, testing the spark plug outside the chamber in the usual way shows a good plug with a healthy spark. Inside the chamber under compression if you actually get a spark it isn't worth a damn.
I'd try changing the plugs, either for a known working set out of another bike (little time, no $) or a new set (little time, little $).

At worst you'll have a spare set of spark plugs :-D

Well I have tried swapping the spark plugs with a diffrent set and it did make a diffrence. But thanks for the advice I would have never thought of that.

The new battery is good advice. If that doesn't solve it, I think the issue is the ignition since gas-wet plugs are present.

Remove your plugs and put the caps back on. Remove the R side ignition cover plate to allow access to spin the engine. Turn the ignition on (you may want to remove headlight bulb to save battery) and turn the engine with a wrench. Determine compression stroke by putting finger in plug hole while spinning engine. You should see the corresponding plug fire on compression stroke just prior to TDC. It should do this on all 4 cylinders. If not, you'll need to figure out why.

Remember that the stock ignition is designed to fire the plugs on both compression and exhaust strokes, so it isn't enough to say the plugs are firing. They have to fire on the compression stroke.

Well what was the problem. I'm having a similar problem. This was nearly a year ago and it doesn't say what it turned out to be!!!

Problems like this suck big time. Before you chase yourself in circles too much about the timing/ignition it would be quick and easy if you have a points plate to throw it on, run some wires to coils, time it by eye and give it a try. No other suggestions, sounds like you've got most things pretty well covered so good luck.

Had the same problem with my gs 1000 after we went thru the carbs. Had a dyna ignition. had vacum hooked to wrong carb, air vents on top of carb were capped off instead of open and had floats set using wrong reference point. went from far left to far right, to number 3. also adjusted air mixture instead of factory manual
