So after the fuel intake piece was found broken on carb 4 and i got that fixed up i started on carb 3, i open the bottom of the carb and notice the post where the dowel pin goes in is broken and missing the top piece. So after disassembling i found the piece under the bowl plug next to a plugged up jet. Another thing to fix! Almost scared to see what carbs 2 and 1 have to offer. Whoever did the last rebuild needs to be slapped for stripping all the screws and causing me grief lol.

Hi,

Another broken float post? That really stinks. They are difficult, if not impossible to fix. Usually the best solution is to get another carb body. I seem to recall a couple of successful repairs. I'll have to search the forum and see if those threads are still around.

Keep up the good work. It will be worth it. :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

Or...

And others have had some success gluing with JB Weld or special epoxies.

Thank you for your indulgence,

On carb #4 i did notice a mild crimp in the tube that goes from the outside carb body and goes into the bottom bowl piece. Is that going to affect it any? Also threw in a pic of my repair to the fuel intake, not sanded down yet but its all jb welded up. Going to try a leak test here soon.

You say "#4", but that is a picture of a #1 carb body.

The cylinders (and carbs) are numbered from left to right, as you sit on the bike.

That means that #1 is under your clutch hand and #4 is under your throttle hand.

Yes, it makes a difference, as each carb is unique. The placement of throttle linkage, vent tube and gas inlet makes them all different.
Some have tried to change a carb to a different position, have not heard whether it was successful.

Would these carb bodies be a direct swap for mine? Im really hesitant to use my fix for the outside right fuel inlet and trying to fix my dowel pin post on the other one. Just want this done right.

I think there are enough differences that they will not work.

.

That actually is the one from the far right under my throttle hand. So maybe the person who did the last rebuild put them on wrong? Wouldnt be the first thing they messed up on lol. I have what is suppose to be #1 and #2 still attached to the bars, heres a pic, so we are 100% sure what carb is what this might help a lot lol (carb 3 is still soaking)

Alright so heres the carb that was in #4 position.

Heres the carbs that are suppose to be #1 and #2

I'm not that smart about these things but it looks like what you think it number one on the rail is a number 4. It would be under your right hand when on the bike.

the one i was thinking was #4 is the one that was under my right under, far right outside on the same side as the rear brake. Whats bothering me is that theres a pin hole in that tube that i was talking about that is pinched, im guessing its not suppose to be there.

I wonder if these carbs had been put on the bike backwards? Maybe the PO didn't think about butterflies pointing INTO the engine?

butterflies were all facing into the engine, had it running and everything just wasnt running the greatest. part of me says just buy a new rack of carbs because with that pinhole in that tube and the small breaks here and there i dont know if it will run perfect with these on. I think i asked before but the 850 carbs will work if i use the 750 rack spacers correct?

If the butterflies were facing into the engine, the only way that you could have that carb on the right side is to install them UP SIDE DOWN.

The ones you say are "supposed to be 1 and 2" are actually 3 and 4, and they are in the correct position.

Maybe the REST of your bike is backwards and the carbs are right? :-k

.

maybe im backwards, i know you are right but maybe i just did it in reverse lol. So do you know if that pinhole in the tube is going to mess me up?
