DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I would like to have my front and rear fenders and the chain guard rechromed. So far, I've only been able to hunt up a place in texas that will do all three pieces for about 370 dollars and it will take 3 to 4 weeks for them to ship them back. Does anyone in Missouri know of anyplace here in the state that will do re-chromes? And preferably without a long wait? I don't want to have Suzi all tore up for a long time, especially with the weather warming up. If I can't find anyone local, I may have to go with the Houston one, otherwise, I'll just head down the road to Russellville here and find out how much it would cost to have them all powder-coated. I know there's gotta be someone in Missouri who does chrome plating on things like this. Although the powder-coating would probably look nice, I'd really prefer the chrome.

I can confirm there are GS owners in MO. I have two, an 1100GK and a 750.

I work in KC and live in Union MO and drive by JC often. As for chrome plating. I would need to research, but you are right some body out there must be doing it.

I'm just north of you in Ashland. Work in Jeff City. If you ever see a red 1100E over near Christy Dr. that will probably be me.
As for chome work, I'd check in St. Louis. I know there used to be several shops there that did chrome work. Granted this was quite some time ago but I'd think there would have to be someone over there doing it.
I'd guess the biggest problem your going to have is finding someone willing to strip and re-chrome the parts as oppose to just chroming.
If you go with the powder coating with the folks in Russellville I can vouch for their work. They did the frame and several other parts for my 1100. Came out very nice. You might call and ask if they know of a chrome shop.

This is a bit closer.
Somebody at work recommended these folks.

Robin,
Thanks for responding. I wasn't able to post all day cause I was at work, but I did peep in and read these. I did a search looking for a website for the one recommended by Pjackson, and came up with a whole list in the state of chrome plating companies. Hopefully, at least some of them would be interested in doing the bike parts.

Well, I'd be willing to prep the parts myself before I take it to them if they tell me what has to be done. I'm glad to know that the powder coating folks do good work, because I was thinking I'd see how much it would run for them to do my frame.

Thanks, I did a search looking for them, and got a whole list of other chromers as well. Hopefully one of them will work out. I'm definitely going to give them a call, because being in Cuba, I could run the parts there myself, and pick them up as well. Saves shipping. LOL

To do my frame, headlight bucket and mounting ears, center and side stands, seat grab rail, rear fender frame, and a few other knickknack parts was $125. That included them doing the sandblasting.
One thing I did hear about the folks in Russellville was that their quotes for work can change from day to day.
Had a friend get his truck frame done for one price then a week later a friend his got a quote on basically the same piece that was almost twice as much. So you made need to dicker with them if they come back with a high quote.

Wow, wait, there are GSrs in my area. Do you have any rides orginized? Any good roads to ride around here. I am tired of flat straight kansas roads.

I have to admit I know of no organized rides but there are pleanty of good roads and I know of none that are flat and straight.

I started riding again last summer after not riding a motorcycle since I was growing up at home with 5 brothers. I was lucky to have pleanty of nicely paved curvy coountry roads to practice on until the wheels felt comfortable under me again.

My biggest struggle is not getting caught up with the ride and letting all of my other duties slide.
