A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Any Ideas?

Here is a pic of my 78 GS100C. You will notice that it is missing the trim piece on the tail piece above the tail light. Naturally this is NLA and so is the rubber trim for the gauge set.
Has anyone found a good substitute for the tail trim? I tried to make one out of a piece of hose but it just wouldn't make that bend. I don't even know if the original piece was chrome or black. Black would work better for me as you can see, I've done my best to dechrome the bike. The engine covers are powder coated black and the exhaust is ceramic coated black.

The "proper" trim was chrome .
They're as rare as rocking horse $hit as they are plastic and break over time . They had two little chrome chrome clips as well .
Anyone who has one will probably not want to part with it .
You could try slicing a piece of insulated wire (whatever colour you want) and gluing the insulation on as a trim .
I used some black on my screen and it works quite well .

Cheers , Simo . :)

I can't help with a solution, I would love to find one myself.

And.....now that I know rocking horse $hit exist, I have got to find some of that as well!!

That bike looks like crap without that trim. When you ride it, I suggest that you wear a tinted shield, and keep it lowered.

Actually, to me, it doesn't even look like anything is missing, as long as the paint isn't messed up where it used to be (and yours looks nice).

I can't help you with the parts, but that bike is quite striking. very nice.

not knowing how big the edge has to be, but what about using door edge trim, something like this ?

If you stick some of that stainless steel aircraft tape on there, then polish it, it would look exactly like the original.

Wouldn't look right with chrome back there. Black would be the best thing in my opinion...that is if you have to put trim on. I think it looks just fine without any.
