    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

anybody ever use replacment petcocks from z1

So I need a new petcock and I have the vacuum style without a lever. A new one is around $60 bucks but I was looking on Z1 and they have adapter plates for replacement petcocks that thread into them and its alot cheaper and simpler than the factory type. Just have to block off the vacuum line on the carbs.

I was just wondering if anyone else had used these.

I used one of these from Z1 last year.
I was laid up for nearly 3 months in the summer and couldn't ride. When I went to start the bike for the first time after that I found the engine was full of gas, and the petcock actually let a very small amount of fuel through even though it was off. It was enough to drain the tank in 2 months or so, as unfortunately must have also had a dodgy needle valve in one of the carbs.

I took the tap apart this winter and it really is very crude inside.
I've now gone back to a proper Suzuki petcock.

Another issue is you have to modify the tank to fit this, so to go back to OEM you will have to fab up a plate to fit between the tank and the OEM tap.
 
I've got an oem type from z1 on my 750L, works just fine.
 
Bought mine from the Bike Bandit (though I'm sure they're all built by the same company) and have had NO problems. Store it with the tank full every winter and have yet to lose a drop. :)
 
Yes, the OEM style works just great, so long as its age isn't measured in multiple decades.
 
I have got an OEM style from Z1 on my 750. Cost about $25 from memory.

If you have never, ever, at any time in your life, EVER forgotten to do something (and I mean NEVER), then sure, get a manual petcock.

The rest of us with normal brains are much better off with OEM vacuum-operated petcocks. OEM petcocks are much better quality as well. They'll last another 20 years, easy.

You mean a plate to go between the lever style petcock and the tank? If so thats what the first pic is.



And Im used to remembering to turn the fuel off as the wing I have uses a lever style as well.
 
I too am used to remembering to turn the fuel off, dirtbikes..
But it sure is nice not to.

My 1967 T200 X-5 Invader (4th bike) had a vacuum-operated petcock. I have been spoiled ever since. When I had to replace my GS petcock over the winter, I ponied up and got a stock replacement. Hopefully it will last another 25 years. Cost per year, less than $3. Cost per day, less than $0.01.
