A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Before my bike can "legally ;)" be on the road I need to fit a chain guard.
I have one but it is broken and I figure in the time it would take to make it work I could prolly make a new one, but I need inspiration.
Anybody have a picture of their homemade/custom guard?
Cheers

I've been looking for a nice chromed steel one but having a hard time finding one. I'll be keen to see what people come up with.

made this one for my gs,

Pingel has a kit that is all out of aluminum and its nice and cheap!:dancing:

I've got to do one for my XS. I changed the swingarm and it didn't come with one. Easy enough I think if you use something in aluminum sheet.

I was wandering around a local building site and came across some alum flashing maybe 1/8" thick or maybe a bit less. A couple of bends and I think you're good to go.

I like the look of Agemax's but mine will just be painted.

Give it a whirl. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Cheers mate,

You certainly don't need a chainguard for drag racing if your motorcycle has shaft drive. I believe that is the point the poster was trying to make.:D

After searching long and hard I couldn't find anything I liked, so I made my own out of stainless steel.

I think it came out not to bad.
What do you guys think?
Cheers

Made this one out of a plastic one that I removed from another bike. I used a utility knife and some 800 grit to make it fit.

That is nice, I assume you have access to a machine shop or laser cutter perhaps? The style if very clean and even though it is SS, there is really not much there for weight how thick is it? I will say the only detractor for me is the rear mounting tap, it kinda sticks out becuase it is at a different angle to the slanted slats in the main part of the guard.
Dont mean to be pciky, but U were looking for feedback

Thanks Jim, Your right I did ask for feedback.
Yeah I do have access to a machine shop, but I had to make do with a plasma cutter in lieu of a laser one.
The guard is made of 2mm SS, It doesn?t wobble around much. If there is an issue I will put stay on the back mount for rigidity.
Something like this, when viewed from the rear.

(excuse the ascii drawing but I couldnt be arsed mucking around with other programs for a couple of straight lines)
Speaking of the back mount your right it does look a little off in those pictures, not so much in person. I did have one that came down at the same angle as the slats but it did not please the eye.
To be honest it is more a case of fuction over form, I need the guard to get the bike on the road (legally). Ater that who knows the bolts may come undone.
Cheers

But, those words are seldom seen in the same sentence.:p
