    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have not used them but I hear they are OK. Anything is better than a 25 year old shock that leaks and doesn't do anything back there.
 
OK, I searched for partsnmore.COM on the forum and got some hits this time haaa.

So they are stiff, I am 250lbs, will that mean it will still be stiff, or "normal for me"?

I am assuming mine are shot, hard to know with your first bike...

So is this the correct part number for my bike?
 
Just put those on a 550E for a friend. Stiff for me at 165lb but pretty perfect for him at 220 - 240 ish.

Those look like you basic Emgo shocks, do a search lots have been said, most say they are very stiff.
 
They look very similar to the ones i've currently got on a 650 kat project. I went for those because i've used them before on a z750. Personal experience is that they are a bit on the stiff side but are quite capable of decent handling. Not for the racer or hard road rider but for the "enthusiastic" among us, these do a very decent job for the price band. I paid short of ?60 delivered off ebay, wemoto.com do the same ones also in chrome for a little more.
I've paid a lot of money in the past for shocks but performance vs price, these are a great buy. Also come with various rubber inserts to suit different dia mountings.

I'd say if you are a bit of a skinny chap, these probably won't work too good for you, unless you take the other half out too!

I have them on my GS1000 and yes, they are stiff. I weigh 210lb BTW. Maybe two up with my wife they'll be alright. It's not really the spring as much as it is the damping. Just sitting on the bike, they flex pretty good. But hit a bump at speed and you feel it. I haven't looked to see if they can be disassembled. I would doubt it though. They are better than a rusty pair of stockers but, if you have the money, get something more tuneable. For me, I had to get something and the price was right. If you don't ask much from them, they should be able to deliver that. Just don't take your bike off any sweet jumps.
 
Those are MDIs and I have a set on the 750cafe. They are indeed stiff as a board, but as already said, its the dampning, not the spring rate thats the stiff part. They are NOT rebuildable, except in spring replacement. There is no dampning adjuster either, so you're stuck with what they got. Seems to me they've built these as a one type fits all with exception to length and mount (eye vs clevis) I actually got a set for a CB1100 because i needed the 1.5 extra inches they are to make up for ride hight lost with an GS11 swinger conversion. Now, im 260lbs, so they dont feel AWFUL to me, but to a lighter person i could see how they could be a bit of a literal pain in the butt on a rough road. The one NICE thing about them, aside from the cheapness, and better than stock performance, is they are a dual rate spring.
 
I would like to hear from someone who has done a few 1000 miles on them... They might free up a bit. It might be due to "stiction" inside the shock (static friction) so they might loosed off a little.

I have a pair and They are stiff, and the shock bushings are junk
 
Make sure the length is correct for your application. They were to long for my '81 GS750L. I could've put them on ok, but the centerstand would've never touched the ground.:)
 
Well, I ordered a pair. To get a set of progressives to Canada would have cost me well over $250-300US, these were $75 shipped from a warehouse in Canada, so no brokerage etc.

My bike budget is what I sold my scoot for ($1700) and the bike was $800, MST is $450, gear was $200, Tires $150 mounted, so that leaves me with about $100, and I have now spent that on gaskets, o-rings and shocks.

I will put more money into this bike for sure, but that was the deal to get this " I want a real bike" proposal through congress (wife). And so I gotta call it done (except for tuning etc) money wise for a while.

Unless I find a decent exhaust system that is.... :twistedevil:
 
My stock shocks "appear" to be 13", these are 13.19", should be ok, I am 250 on a good day, 260 around xmas heh, so I assume these should be ok?

Hopefully the extra 3/16" won't mess up my side/center stand sitch...

If the bushings it comes with suck, can I get different ones? where?
 
Don't know where to get them. If you have your old shocks I would try to use the Old metal bushing that fits on the shock stud if usable. The one the shocks come with is plastic? The rubber bushing is too soft
 
Typically that is the case. You can also find tube stock at a hardware store. Sometimes with old bikes you have to be creative
 
totally I get that, Just want to do it right the first time whenever possible :D
