DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Got out today for a bit of a ride, about an hour and a half.
Today will be last day that will be able to go for ride for about a week.
So, yah, ya'll will get a break from my goofy roadside pictures. Maybe this will help me break this bad habit.

Stopped to look in this blueberry field.
Not ripe yet.

Her name is Glenda because that's her name.
And she's in the house because if she were on the porch, either she'd get stolen or she'd succumb to the weather.

Thank you Sir for clearing that up.
Makes perfect sense.
Asking for a friend....does Glenda have a sister?
Glenda doesn't talk about her family. To be honest, I think she may have PTSD from some event earlier in her life. Most days she doesn't say anything at all, and she hardly ever even changes her clothes.

Short rides today

Short rides today

Did some short rides today and followed my bicycle routs, just to check their total distance with the odometer.
Took some pics of me on my bike, just wanted to see if I looked like a dork in my Hi-Vis gear.
I spray painted the front of my helmet after reading more stories about left turn crashes.

Lookin great, Bill!
I don't care if I "look like a dork in my Hi-Vis gear" (I don't think I do, for that matter). The top four reasons I wear Hi-Vis gear are:
1, visibility
2, visibility
3, visibility
4, armor

I never want any driver to say about me "I just didn't see him!"

I just got a new helmet and was excited how well it matched my jacket:

Compare that to my old helmet (and you can view more of the jacket here):

kerrfunk, If we had a "Like" button here I would have punched it for your HJC. :encouragement: Probably what inspired me to post my pics.
Actually I wish we had a "Like" button, there would be more encouraging feedback from members.

Yep, still look like a Dork, but a Hi-Vis Dork. 👍🤣

I like hi viz and don't care about looking dorky - actually I dont even think it looks bad anyway.
My my jacket / pants are black, the jacket being purchased long ago. On trips I wear a hi viz vest over the jacket that I use at work, and it seems that I'm given more leeway in traffic - I still make no assumptions though. I should wear it all of the time, but locally I generally don't.

You?re right super flat. But if I look in the other direction there are mountains that climb 4000 plus feet from the valley floor. 5AE4C955-4959-4DF6-8E72-7DD0B4028D9B.jpg

Here, let's put the rubber back down! Nice view from there of the Sandia's. That means watermelon in Spanish. At sunset the mountains have red and green colors that make them look like a giant watermelon. Maybe you knew that already???

A short ride at sunset/in the dark to try and scrub the new tires; the tape and writing is gone from the tires but I still have some nubs on the front I need to get rid of on Saturday.

475 miles today from home to Mount Pleasant, Iowa with pretty much all but the first 50 and last 80 on the slab. Thought I might be able to stay dry based on the projected radar but had to put the rain gear on just before Indianapolis and didn’t take it off until Bloomington IL. I’ll do the last 270 or so miles into Omaha tomorrow and then hope we can finish the work early this week. May decide to take the LONG way home back through Kentucky. Bandit ran great averaging maybe 44mpg or so

well I will be the dissenting voice on hi viz. I personally don't think its that drivers don't see you .. I think they see you fine .. I think that most of them just think you are unprotected and when they make the left in front of you it is a solid "FU deal with it."

Its your antennae not your clothing that will get you home.

Having said that .. there are times when it may provide added security. Before I left NYC I rode my bicycle to work about 12 miles one way though heavy traffic. I installed one of those blinking led lights on the front and back and damn if you couldn't see it from a mile + away.

I left before the sun was up and often rode home after it was down .. at least the drivers who cared saw me and the ones who didnt had a clear shot.

But in my experience .. they just don't care, thinking you have to give right of way or die and challenge you by doing unsafe stuff. I see it on almost every ride over almost 40 years.
