A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone using the EMGO Viper Fairing?

I've seen the EMGO Viper fairing at a couple bike shops and thought it looked cool, but seeing as it's a pretty popular fairing I was hoping some of you might have pictures.

If you do have it, how's it compared to naked. I'm leaning awful hard on the highway or windy days (pretty much the norm in Nebraska).

I've seen the Vintage Shoei, but it doesnt really work for me style-wise.

Ultimately though I want to make the bike more comfortable to ride, so if the EMGO sucks on that part the looks are irrelevant.

Plus1 on Tkent's description. Cheap and flimsy. The clear shield is especially an issue as it is thin (1 or 2mm) and easily cracked or broken. Look for something better.

It's a very flimsy copy of a good fairing.
Floppy flimsy.
I dig the old school look of the Wes Cooley fairing too, but those seem to be fairly rare or require a bit more work, not quite bolt-on.

There's one that looks the same but better, I had one on the 750/1000 for a while, a pretty good "summertime" fairing.

Meier was the brand I think.

The body is ABS and the windshield is acrylic. Had one many years ago, doubt it's changed much. I had no problem with mine and would consider one again if the price were right.

I checked their website and perhaps they used to make one but there is only parts for new GSX bikes on there now.

Junk junk junk. Mine lasted a season before the screen cracked around the screws and then I could litterally tear it in half like paper.
Maier fairings are still available new. Gotta search their site a little (crappy site) but under the universal fairings catagories...

This one?

Airtech is the way to go for any body work.
Not cheap and thats a good thing.

My buddy is going to let me try this fairing that he has laying around from his last bike. If it fits I'll see if it helps at hwy speeds. It's not really they style I'm looking for, but function is more important at this point.

Majik,
I'm putting one on my 450 but making my own mounting hardware out of small sailboat tangs. Also adding 2 additional mounting points. I think a secure mounting setup will keed it from flopping and self destructing. Ayear from now I'll let you guys know how it worked, or didn't work?

I'd love to see pictures when you are done. I may go ahead and buy the cheaper EMGO now and this fall/winter consider the better one, when I would have the bike down for other large projects, including paint.

Givi has a pretty good selection of windscreens, and they mount to the handlebars with only two bolts, so you can remove them in a minute if your planned ride doesn't involve a lot of highway work.
