Hello. I am reassembling my VM26 carburetors from a 1978 gs750. The needle slide has a thin disc that sits within the slide, under where the actuator/arm attaches to the slide(please see photo). I may be obsessing but there is a tiny punched raised point on the disc and I am not sure if it faces up or down within the assembly? The tiny punched dot/point is just to the left of the centre hole.
Thanks, any advice appreciated.Mike.

Look for wear marks the dimple may have made on the slide and the mounting flange. Maybe able to see it that way.

rebuilt my carbs about 6 weeks ago, has\d the same confusion but pretty sure the dimple goes down towards the slide

The dimple should push on the washer around the needle. That will cock the needle to one side to keep it from fluttering.

Thanks very much for the replies. So it is to stop the needle fluttering, that's genius. It is amazing how something so simple can have an effect. cheers.Mike.

ID carb jet/tube ?

ID carb jet/tube ?

Hi. I would like to identify this brass tube that protrudes down from the carburetor body.
(see photo of upside down carb body - tube is to the left of where the pilot jet goes).
I need to find out the route that this tube takes to ensure I have it cleaned out properly. As far as I can make out the passage of this tube exits at the base of itself with small holes along it's length.

The carburetor bodies have been ultra sonic/chemical cleaned and pilot circuit, main jet, needle seat and choke passages have been blown out. Thanks again. Mike.

Thank you jabcb. I see now that it is the fuel pickup for the choke circuit. My #3 carb fuel pickup stem for choke circuit was blocked. After picking at it for a while with a guitar string and carb cleaner it unblocked. however I think I may have scarred the inside of the tube with the probing string. I can feel a little something of the sort. hopefully that will not effect it's functioning. I wonder if you can buy replacement tubes for these? cheers.

Scratching the inside of that tube will neither Effect nor Affect its functioning.

As long as you are SURE it's open, it will be fine. :encouragement:

The next question would be: where did the crud go? :-k

If you did not have the plunger out of the carb, that crud is still in there, just waiting to block something.

Remember: any shortcuts you take are merely another opportunity to do it over and (hopefully) do it right.

The other thing to watch for and is often overlooked is at the bottom of the small reservoir in the float bowl that the tube goes into is a small orifice. That is often plugged and doesn't allow fuel in from the main float chamber. If the inside of the tube somehow got nicked or has a small defect it probably won't affect much and if it does it will only affect the choke (enrichener).
