got under way today, dont forget folks its a Saturday race day at Assen.
not a good start for Lorenzo, he had a massive wipe out in a wet FP2 and broke his collar bone. he will be out for this weekend at least.
Rossi is a happy 2nd as he thinks he has sorted the handling problems on his M1 to his liking (finally)

lets see what happens in qually on Friday!

Ya ouch for Lorenzo. Too bad, I would like to see the continued battle for the leader position in the points. That collar bone is going to take him some recovery time to be sure.

Marquez has an even better chance at the top 3.

What's up with Ben Spies? still having alot of problems physically or is it mental at this point? Wonder what kind of a contract he has with Primac...

Spies is still recovering from his latest shoulder surgery

Too bad for Jorge

Thanks for the reminder it's on Saturday! Shame about Jorge, don't like seeing anyone hurt. I would love to see Cal get another podium though. He has become my underdog favorite of the season. Him and Rossi that is... someone needs to break the Honda dominance.

it wasnt a good day for the Honda boys, Marquez crashed in FP3 and is riding with a fractured toe and finger, Pedrosa crashed out in qualifying leaving him 5th on the grid. Crutchlow did well to get pole but even he admitted it was only due to the lack of Whoregay's presence.
Rossi on 4th with a better set up bike should be good to watch.
if it is a wet race then hold on to your hats, its anybodies race!!!!!!

quote from MotoGP.com...........

The already dramatic race weekend was given a new twist when the Yamaha Factory Racing rider returned to the historic venue on Friday afternoon. The reigning World Champion, who broke his left collarbone in a heavy crash on Thursday afternoon, this morning received medical clearance to fly. He promptly boarded a privately charted flight from Barcelona, landing at Groningen Airport at 5pm.

The Mallorcan, highly keen to compete in the seventh round of the season, will head to the Medical Centre for his check-up at 8am local time (GMT +2) on Saturday.

“The collarbone was in three pieces,” Wilco Zeelenberg, Team Manager for Yamaha Factory Racing, explained to motogp.com. “They did a great job in Barcelona. The collarbone is very stable, so that means he can move around without actually moving it, so that is a good thing but he is very tired at the moment. He took the decision (to return) quite soon. A collarbone is a collarbone - it’s not a knee or an elbow or a wrist, which are much more important for riding the bike.”

When asked if there is a fear of further injuries for Lorenzo, Zeelenberg replied:

“Yes, of course we need to judge this very carefully, but these riders are risking a lot every race - even to win as he did at Mugello and Barcelona takes a lot of risk. To risk a little bit less tomorrow and finish the race is maybe not such a big risk for him…if he crashes tomorrow or within two weeks it will be the same result - a drama - but it will be like this for the rest of the season because the plate will stay inside (the collarbone) for a year.”

Should he be declared fit to race, Lorenzo will start from 12th on the grid. Despite not having set a lap time in Q2, he was officially entered into the pole shootout courtesy of his overall fastest time from across the opening trio of practice sessions; his leading FP1 time w

Rossi won:D

yep................. i wasnt going to spoil it but as you have........... what a race :D
ok circumstances probably affected the outcome but so what! he won it fair and square.
Crutchlow was unlucky but a good 3rd place......

Jorge has proved himself to be one of the great racers - he displayed a Dick Mann level of toughness riding today, just a day and a half after having his 3 piece collar bone plated

There must have been an earthquake in Italy when the race ended from all the people jumping up and down

Lorenzo is a Super Hero finishing in p5! And Cal ought to be his sidekick for beating Pedrosa!

I don't understand why and how I spoiled the fun:confused:

because there are probably quite a few members here who havent seen the race yet and did not want to know the race result.
the original thread was just to give you guys a heads up that it was a Saturday race and then it progressed to Lorenzo's misfortune.
if i was going to post results i would have put in big bold letters "race result spoiler", then people who do not wish to know the result, know not to look.

I understand but...the news is everywhere in our real time world:cool:

I haven't seen the race yet, and you can bet US news doesn't cover motoGP... It is very easy to ignore the results until I can watch it, simply don't go to the motorcycle news websites... Don't feel bad one of my friends already spoiled it for me.
