A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

so i was digging on my bike today and saw a pick up for auto canceling signals my turnsignal switch stays in the left or right position and if i put it back in the center it shuts off... Is the pickup for the signals on all the later bikes or is my auto canceling screwed up?

Hi Mr. twiggy2cents,

There's a very simple test to determine if your stock turn signal relay is operating properly. You can read the manual or you can see this article on my website:

Turn Signal Relay Replacement

Thank you for your indulgence,

Did the 550s actually have cancelling signals? :-k

I have been under the impression that only 750 (maybe the 700) and up bikes had auto-cancelling signals, but I could be wrong (again).

If the bike is designed with auto-cancel signals, the control will have the word AUTO on the face. It will also have 5 positions. Starting from left to right:
#1 is spring-loaded and will return the switch to #2. It starts the left turn sequence.
#2 is where the switch will stay after initiating a left turn sequence.
#3 will cancel either left or right turn sequences before the auto canceller.
#4 is where the switch will stay after initiating a right turn sequence.
#5 is spring-loaded and will return the switch to #4. It start the right turn sequence.

If this is the way your switch is working, then it's doing just fine.

.

I have seen that 1000s had self-cancelling as early as 1977.
The 850s had them in 1979.
When did the 750s get them?
Presuming the 700s might have had them when they shrunk the 750s.
Did the 650s ever have self-cancellers?
How about the 550s?
Anything smaller ever have them?

Please, expiring minds want to know. :D

i think it was a general wiring setup because its got it but its not an auto cancelling switch its a three position

Signals

Signals

My 750 doesn't have them but my 1100 does. When you push the button to the left or right, the signal should come on. When it goes off, the button does not return to the center position. You need to do that manually although if you give it a push in the same direction (for instance, 2 left turns in a row), it will still work just fine even though the button was in the left position.

im retarded lol it was the steering lock i was seeing oops!

the part that comes out when you turn the ignition to lock
