Hi everyone I am fairly new to these forums when it comes to posting anyway. I have been reading them for a year or so though getting tidbits of information to help me out with my 79 GS850.

Anyway on to my question. I just got my tank/sidecovers/tailpiece finished painted and before I get to putting it all back in place i wanted to polish the engine aluminum and chrome pieces. I decided to use Autosol as I know where i can get it nearby and it seems to be a good choice. My only question is approximately how much am I going to use? They seem to only sell it in 75-100ml tubes. I have never used it previously so I really have no idea what I am getting into.

Also i was going to try and use a dremel tool for the work around the engine any suggestions on what attachments I should get to do the work would be greatly appreciated as well :-D .

Justin

Well geezz, Justin. Can't let your first post go un-answered.

The Autosol would probably be used very sparingly (never used it) but if its like any other polish, a little goes along way.

For dremel attachments...get some sanding disks for the tuff stuff and a few puffing wheels...Dremel sells a polishing kit, may as well buy that. Proabably cheaper than buying a piece at a time. (Walmart).

Have fun.

I have used autosol as it was recommended to me by a mate of mine. You are right it is sold here in a tube like a toothpaste tube.I found that you don,t need much at all when applying but just need to keep working it.

I have also bought Autosol in a tub. Not sure how much was in it, but it was about two inches high and two inches round.

Well thanx for the replies my wife picked me up a tube yesterday so now its off to the grinding wheel I guess. Now if only i could find a seat base to fit my bike lol. The last guy who owned it used fibreglass mat/resin because it had rusted so badly now it just looks like some kind of abomination sitting there .

All the best with it Justin ,it should give you the result you need

Autosol turns poo into gold. :-D For best results, put a little on your finger and rub into the metal using a circular motion for around 20-30 seconds then wipe the (soiled) autosol off with a rag. The way you tell the autosol has done the job is that it has turned a grey-black. That is the dirt & oxidation being lifted from the metal. Have fun!
