    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

aux. driving lights and windshield - 1979 GS1000

I just bought my GS from my brother in law, mint condition, only 19k miles. But in my part of the country, unless it's summer you take a beating without a windshield. Also, with the traffic here, you need to be seen. Can anyone recommend any amber aux. lights? Especially, how to mount them? Also, a windshield, not too tiny or huge, just something moderate to take the bulk of the wind off me?

I had a 79 1000 and indeed i did put two rectangular driving lights on it.
I mounted the lamps vertically on the two bolts for the motor mounts just next to the headers ......being as they were mounted vertical they looked good, but the pattern that is suppose to be wide & flat now was a vertical stripe .......worked OK.......lit up the front wheel kinda cool......but the pattern needed some adjusting to best suit.
The electrical system held up just fine with the 55W bulbs it had on it....

You could put in an 50/100 Watt headlight. I've gotten the feeling that the higher power low beams available (80Watt) may actually work as a tractor beam on other vehicles. It's bright enough during daylight hours that people appear to get mesmorized by the thing and drive towards you... That's just my impression though.

Funny you should write this, Ive observed the same phenomena. When I see a bike with an extremely bright headlamp, I cannot actually judge the distance of the bike as the light almost blinds me!
 
For the 'windshield', it's tough to beat the National Cycle Plexifairing. Just be really careful cleaning it. No matter what you buy, it'll scratch easily.
 
As an added comment to the last post, all plasitcs should be cleaned with a plastic polish and cleaner, windex and other glass cleaners have an abrasive in it that helps brake up dirt but on plastic it will scrath it.
